Walt 1 Whitman, sometime candidate for { Governor of South Carolina, to wit: "The blind tigers have their eyes i wide open and the authorities have ' gone stone blind." There are some j who it would appear are willing to \ shut their eyes to the condition of atTairs now existing, but when con- 1 fronted with the question there 1 is not one who will not own up and say that it is deplorable. t The dispensary whiskey was bad t enough, but the "blind tiger stuff'j that is now being dispensed, is a thousand times worse, for it is the cheapest whiskey sold by whiskey t houses, and resold by the "Tiger" ? at a profit, anda large profit at that, c As to the cheap liquors sold by the c former dispensary, it was said that t it was of the very lowest grade and j that it was poisonous, and it was a asserted by some who had made ob- 1 servations of its effects on those who s ( drank it, that there were actually j more than a half dozen cases of ( paralysis in Horry County from its I use. If the kind sold by the whis- } key houses to consumers in this county, or sold out at retail or by ll. - l X A 1 ? 1 ' 1 ?? 1 - ' me uoiue uy me onnti timers, is as j bad or worse, this state of atTairs is t a serious menace to the gopd health of some of the people. 1 It seems to us the county conven- | tion some time ago did well to ?Us- j cuss this matter and bring it to the ( attention of the people, and to tl. ><e ' about to go into polities especially ' It was shown by a resolution passed that the convention was in j favor of a dispensary unless the municipal and other officers can ' control the blind tigers. It is true , as some one said, that the county | voted out the dispensary and that this question was therefore settled. 1 This does not answer the condition which confronts us now. It appears that whiskey drinking is going on as much or more than over, and there are those who would like to | know who is to blame for it and why the evils are not corrected. 1 Some of those who voted against the ' dispensary doubtless did so in the ( full faith that should the dispensary be taken from the county, then the 1 authorities wmild see that whiskey should not be sold in others ways. Misses Fannie and Ellen Grainger from Clarendon was at Sunday school school, also the young men who ae 2ompanied them. Rev. C. P. Rullock will preach at Mt. Sinai on the fifth Sunday and Saturday night before. Miss Maude Rullock of Ashepole, s visiting the family of C. P. Bulock. Miss Fannie Ellen Grainger was he guest of the Rev C. P.
