The Columbia correspondent cf the
Augusta Chronicle sats there was no
standing room on Tuesday night of
last week in the aisle or galleries c f
the hall of the house of representatives
when Senator Tillman took tin
stand to tesoifv before the dispensary
investigating committee. Senator
Tillman was on the stand over two
hours, and though lie Is uot a man to
waste words in coining to the point i
his evidence disclosed nothing new
Still what he had to say was received i
with much interest and frequently he i
was applauded generally. He often i
turned the taules on the attorneys j
questioning him, these incidents (
causing laughter to his favor. At

relative ot General Robert E. Lee,

Mr. w. II. Starr, a farmer wbo
lived near Greshamvllle in Greene
county, eras killed by a mule Wednes

to Madison driving a pair of mil.*
bitched to a wagon to aell a bale of
cotton. Afte^ selling the ootton he
drove bis mules to the public well
near the bank to give them water be- '
fore leaving town. The mules starred
away while he was drawlDg the water
and he caught the lefthand one by
the bit of the bridle. They ran,
drugging him, threw him duwn, and
stepping on him, broke his neck and

passing over his b)dy. Dr. It. W.
Trotter, the physician who was sum
moned, says he was instantly killed.
