question is sometimes asked these
days and it is generally answered
I))- saying that there is as much
drunkenness and liquor drinking
in w as ever, ana some so lar as
to say there is more of it going on.
W ho is responsible for the state of
affairs? The liquor does not come
from a dispensary because there is
none in this county, and no dispensary
in any adjoining county .from
which the liquor can be conveniently
bought, Docs it come from blind
timers or from sellers of the stuff
in other States? These arc questions
that tho authorities ought to answer.
11 is commonly said that although
there is no dispensary in the county
yet liquor is very easily obtainable
in Conway and that without orderit.git
from a distance. Is such a state
of aflairs correct, and who is responsible
for it?
Ir the Herald has. any particular
class <>i people at heart it. is the
farmers of Horry *ounty. The Her
aid desiies their prosperity and wo'I
ueing beyond anything else, and for
this reason it has been urging
them from time to time during the
year that is past to organize t hemselves
and join the army of southern
farmers who are lighting for better
prices for cotton and tobacco, the
great money crops. A letter appears
in this issue from a former Horryite,
who has been keeping up with the
movement of the farmers, and he
regrets, as we do, tlie apparent
lack of interest the farmers of this
county have shown recently in the
matter of organization. In all great
movements in the past the people of
Horry county, have shown themselves
to be leaders, and the question wo
ask, is, why do they not show them
selves leaders in this? ?It is beyond
doubt the greatest movement of
modern times looking to the advancement
of the farmers' interests.
It is something in which each individual
farmer should take a personal
interest and this should compel him
to see the ad van 1 age of joining

and making strength from unity of
purpose and of action.
