Conwav vras sorry to hear last 'riiiiisrliiv cvonintr of th? hnrnimr nf tin* shingle plant of tlie Richardson Cypress Lumber and Shingle Co., al Rucksport The entire shingle plant was destroyed and there was no telling the cause of the disaster. The loss is figured at between twelve and fourteen thousand d >1lars, only a small portion of this is covered by insurance. Last Thursday was a day of bad wt athcr and the hands at the plant were released from work at an ear lb r hour than usual. They had all left and most of them had leathered in the store from the cold, boon afterwards some boys disooverei the fire and it had already gathered such head-way that nothing could be done to stay the flames It was raining and near by buildings were all saved as also the timber and lumber on the yards. Mo one knows the cause. Some b ibet't had been used about some of the machinery just before the mill was closed down for the day, and this may have been carelessly left so ihat it started the blaze. Editor Herald: As it is very seldom that I see anything from this section in vour columns, I thought I would write you a few items. We would like to hear from all cor respondents. The health of the people of this vicinity is very good at present. Quite a storm visited these parts last Friday night. It has been a long time sinco thore was a Christmas tree near this section We hope all will have a nice time during the holidays and no on# get drunk. Quite a number went down. ?The county authorities last week, after repairing the McQueen and Nichols bridges, sent the force to the bridge across Simpson creek, where some much needed work was done. ? A new railroad is soon to be built in Horry county. The company has already been chartered at a capital stock of *200,000. The road will connect Con way and Marion -Georgetown Times. ?Joe Wineg'ass, a colored blindtiger, was recently sentenced by the U. S. Court at. Raper and Arthur F. Burroughs have sold their holdings in the Couwav Lumber Co. to Wilson Brothers of Philadelphia, Pa. The new owners will assume control of the concern the first of next year. ? Mr. aud Mrs. J. J. Cook, Jr., are spending some time in the county visiting relatives and friends. They will remain until after the holidays and then return to their home at Cairo, Ga. Mr. Cook is a brother of Mr. M. W. Cook, who is with the florry Hardware Company. ?While Mr. M. O. Anderson and family, who live near Homewood, were at church on Sunday before last, some thief entered the house with feloneous intent and took away a watch and seventy live cents that he found in a drawer. The thief entered through a window and left the same way completly covering his tracks so that VIr. Anderson has found no clue to the guilty party. ? Rev. J. L. Shinn, pastor of the baptist church here, is preaching a series of instructive sermons on interesting subjects. They have been highly complimented by reason of their depth of thought, well rounded periods and their timely lessons, which, if learned, will tend to correct many social and domestic evils which are so prevalent in these days and the practice of which causes so much unhappiness. A Cjood ,lo!> of Work, The Oounty Supervisor has jus. had a good job or work done at the McQueen bridge aoross Lake swamp, building a passage about midway so that vehicles can pass each other. This is one of the losgest bridges in the county and was put up at great expense by a former Supervisor of the county, It has always been a puzzle why he did nos have the passage arranged at lirst. Miss Celia and Nolie Grainier of Joppa, visited friends near Mt. Pisgall on Sunday.
