This is just as neeessaJy as bread. Ti lii'ENTiNE has demanded a very ' high price this year and it will hardly ever be anv lower in nrion for long at a time because terpentine trees are getting scarce all over the country. From what the Herald can learn the prices of tobacco all over the tobacco growing belt have so far been more satisfactory, and as a general rule the farmers are pleased with results from the crop. If the farmers will half try this year we arc of the opinion that they can control the prices of cotton to a great extent, benefitting not only themselves but the whole eountrv. What they did last Spring can be done over again, and they will make a mistake if they sell their cotton for less than ten cents. If the price is two low at, any time, thoy can hold the cottou as they have been doing until prices arc forced upward. There is one law which deserves lobe enforced with greater rigor in South Carolina than any other, if it be true, as some will contend, that any law should be more strictly enforced than another. That law is the one prohibiting the carrying of concealed weapons and pistols loss than a certain size and weight. The deadly pistol has done more towards the taking of life unlawfully than poison or other deadly thing used by manslaycrs. In nine cases out of ten there would be no killing no matter how hot the dispute or deep the quarrel, were it not for the pistol concealed about the person and only drawn at the last when the other has no reason to sus poet such a weapon. Tins is the season of the year when there is generally more danger from fevers thau at other seasons of the year. It is the time wheu the deadly mosquito gets in his work if he gets it in at all, and decaying vegetation has its part to play in the matter of health at this time of the year. It is time when the people cannot be two careful about taking proper sanitary pre cautious, and lessen danger as much as possible. Some cases of continued fever have been reported from distant seetious of the connty, but so far as wo know there are none in the vicinity of Couway. The town is naturally a healthy place and only a little attention is needed to make it one of the best health resorts in the State. There is quite ?a number of criminal cases ready for trial in the court next week. The usual large crowd will be precnt to witness the trials. There will be manj examples perhaps of the punishment that surely follows the commission of crime, and these lessons should not f..:i ?~ i il.!.. -ii.-i it*11 tu u't*vt? moir eneci upon All those who hear them. The proceedings in our courts are highly instructive and a citizen never loses anything by quitting his work and attending, because he gains knowledge that is valuable to him in life Our courts are not what they might be for purposes of education of the masses because the court house is entirely too small to hold the people who wish to hoar. Those who do go into the court room here never know what comfort is, because the house i v -.1 . and there is. a lack of the ventilation needed to keep up a circulation of pure fresh air, May those who attend at the approaching court see the absolute necessity of a new court house and join those who will get after the Legislators and ask them to make another law subrniting the question of new public buildings to the people of the county. There is but little doubt that the election will carry next time in favor of the new building. i i % llow's Tttis? \V? offer One Hundred Hollitr- Reward f?>r any use of Catarrh that cannot *?? cured by Hall's (| 'atnrrh fun*.
