CHILDREN'S DAY AT I.AKES\V
AMP.
1 111* Occasion was Attended by a
l.urjcc Crowd on Aujeust 5th.
Thorn was an unusually lur?^o :ittendance
and all seemed to work for
the pleasure of each other.
The crowd begun to gather quite
early in the morning, but of course
there was no business of the church
until 0 o'clock. The children were
called in the church to recite their
speech, and they went over them
once before the crowd was invited
in. When all who could get in had
been seated the exercise opened.
The children were arranged in classes
and were introduced to speak in
classes. They hud very interesting
speeches and spoke very intelligently.
The speakers received many
cheers from the congregation and the
cheers were well deserved. After
each recitation, the music and singing
by Mrs. J. II. Ilasclden was very
good. When all the little folks had
finished their work which was a very
important part of the program, the
musician with thesinging choir made
some very line music, after which
tin4 Rev, Mr. Stone delivered an eloquent
address He spoke pricci
pally on Sin.day school work and he
gave the young men and women
some good advice.
After Mr. Stone had closed his
li scour so and after tin4 music and
singing, Mr. U. M. I'Moyd was introluced
to the congregation, Mr.
b'loyd make a good talk on Sunday
school work and gave the young boys
md girls an impressive talk. After
lis discourse and the music, the congregation
was dismissed and retired
rum me nouso lor dinner, though
the ruin drove them back in the
louse a short while. It soon went
)vcr and they went out to preparing
linner. Alter the table had been
set and the crowd had gathered
iround under the beautiful dark
shade, the Rev. Mr. Stone was called
mi to ask the blessing, and after the
Messing had been asked, the people
were all invited to dinner. There
,vas anything to eat that could be
wished for and after all had left the
able satisfied, there was plenty left.
Everybody seemed to be delighted
with what they found on the table,
ind pleased at the hospitable nianler
in which they were treated.
When the table had been cleared
if its burden and the crowd had disicrsed
the young folks enjoyed the
ifternoon with each other where the
ool drinks were served.
At four o'clock in the afternoon,
he congregation was called to the
hureh for preaching. The Rev. Mr.
\bererornbie preached a very interesting
sermon. Soon after the
erowd dispersed and every one left
veil pleased, and the behavior was
'xtremelv fond

The healtli of our community is
fairly good at tliis time.
The Supervisor passed through
this section last Friday onroute to
Sandy lilulV, where the Chain Gang
is now located. The Chain Gang is
doing a line job at Sandy I 'lull , and
the people in Floyds township ars
well pleased with the job, and surely
there was not a place in *he county
that needed work any worse. We
all congratulate the Supervisor for
the work he is having done. He is
having better work done than any
Supervisor who proceeded him, and
if we keep him in otlicc we will see
the importance of reelecting a man
till lie thoroughly understands how
to have work done, and having it
done to the best advantage and
where it is most needed.
Mr. W. T. Lewis, overseer on the
public road leading from McQueen's
bridge to Sandy LllutV, is having
some good work done on his section
of road, lie deserves credit for it,
and 1 hope that all the overseers will
do as lie is doing, that is, put their
road in good tlx .
The Supervisor was at Play Card
