We hope that the discussion of the
dispensary question will be conducted
on a hijjh plane. Criticism is not
argument, and all that the anti-dispensary
advocates need to do,
is to show the enormous expense
it takes to run the dispensary and
all the supposed profits come from
the poor devil who drinks the whiskey,
show it to the people that it is
against their interest financially,
morally and every other way to con
tinue the dispensary, and the fi^ht
is won. The art icle of Dr. Norton
was a clear cut statement of the
qispensary situation in a nutshell.
We know our dispensary brethren

Editor Herald: I am glud to learn
of so many citizens in various communities
who seem to be ready and
willing to work against the dispell
sar y. As the the citizens have rights
they also have corresponding duties.
Therefore, men should study that
which will best promote the good of
the conn try.
Every voter should study his po
liticaiduty with the best light that
he can obtain, and decide what is
right and then vote, his sentiments
honestly and fearlessly.
If the State has good goovorment,
the voter deserves the credit, and if
it have bad gavernmcnt, the voter
deserves the blame. It. is the same
way with the dispensary. If we vote
against the dispensary, we deserve
t he credit and if we vote in favor of
the dispensary we deserve the blame.
Many citizens seem to think that
the dispensary fund is a great help
to our public schools, but they don't
secin to think about theexper.se we
have to pay to keep up the dispensary.
1 hope they will think about
the expense it is to us. We have to
pay about one dollar extra, and only
ufet about 20 per cent back in return.
So fellow citizens lets be ready
ind when the election comes otT
which will be about theHrd of October,
vote against the dispensary.

It is positively known that they
have never planted those creeks in
clams. They have no need to do
that for those creeks have ever
abounded in natural growth shell
fish and annually being supplied
naturally. Furthermore planting
clams cannot be done at a profit,
neither have they planted any
oysters, they have put some shells
on the natural growth oyster beds,
which so far as 1 have seen have
proved a detriment. Besides, as
I understand the law, they have no
right to interfere with those natural
growth beds. Those beds are annually
growing natually as line oyster's,
as can be found in any other

the State had I he right to lease natural

Then if this be so, why
did Hreslaur Luchicotte & Co., have
to have those sworn statements sent
to the sinking fund commissioners,
-dating that there were no oysters
or clams in those creeks lit for maretable
purboses, before they could
obtain the lease. Men who will say
or do things thatare wrong, knowingly
for money, are not lit for a
watchdog around a man's premises.
We know that swearing to lies is
against the holy will of (lod and is a
crime that stands against the peace
and dignity of our State, and we
read so many places in the bible
where the Lord has brought dis*
aster and tribulations on the people
for wickedness ami sin and there is
no variableness, neither shadow of
turning in tin; Lord. lie is the
same Hod today that he ever was
and ever will be, and if we allow
honesty and principle t> be laid

may then expect the wrath of (1 ,d

ed the time will shortlv be when a
man's life can be bough' for a small
sum, for sin is like an herb or plant,
when planted and cultivated, tho
roots will reach out further and
further into the soil until it becomes
very large and strong, ami inonev
seems to lie a good soil to cultivate
wickedness in. Now if it can be
detected that those lease holders are
holding marshes and creeks and beds
that they have no right to hold which
as 1 understand the law can be done,
if properly looked into, then let
them be dealt with according to the
