An to .Missions
Mr. Kditor: ?We notice an article
in your last week's issue concerning
Mr. Kobt. Floy'tis work, which we '
think as to a part of it is somewhat
misleading.
We wish to say in the first place
that we have nothing to say against <
Mr. Floyd and his work. Wo believe
him to be a christian gentleman and
thut he is doing a tine work, and a
work that is needed, and we, as the
article stated, ought to appreciate
what the State Hoard is doing i 11 our
county, but the misleading part of
this article is in reference to the
amount Horry county pays to Missions.
The article states, "If the question
were asked, how much does Horry
pay to Missions?" Not more than
fifty dollars would probably answer
the question. The way this article
reads it would take in Missions of all
kinds and by all denominations in
the county. We would like to state
that we are not in a position to
know how much the county pays,
but, we are in a position to know that
the Waccaniaw HaptUt Association
paid last year nearly three hundred
dollars We are also in a position
to know that Conway with her three
churches paid last year about three
hundred and fifty dollars, a part of
which of course, was included in the
amount paid by the Waecamaw Association,
We will agree that our neonle are
r.ot doing what they might do. I lor
rv county could pay twice or three
times what they arc paying to State
and Home Missions, and could support
three or lour Missionaries in
foreign lands and never beany poorer
by it, but still at the same time
we want credit for what little we arc
doing.
The people in Horry county are
becoming more interested in Missions
than ever before, and we believe before
three years our contributions
will more than double what they are
now.
May Cod help the preachers to
preach Missions more and help the
people to give more. ,
J. C Spivcy.

Rain is plentiful and crops are
very good. Tobacco farmers will
soon be through curing.
Mr. W. I). Gore and Son have nine
acres of fine tobacco and and have
cured five barns. They have had
fine success in curing.
Mr. O. J. Hell has cured two barns.
Mr. C. C. Gore is curing for him.
Crops in Little River swamp are
line and those who planted in the
swamp this year will not suffer for
bread. All who own land in this
swamp arc talking of starting a canal
near Mr. Dandy Kdgc's and carrying
it to the back end of the swamp.
1 f they will do this the swamp will
raise enough bread to supply the
county.

The Suinmor School for tho colormi
teachers of llorry county which
began on ]he 'led of July, closed on

regular attendance of the teachers
evidenced their high appreciation of
tho same. Each also manifested
great interest in tho work. On the
last day, all expressed themselves as
having been greatly benefit ted. and
that they were greatly indebted to
the authorities that ordered the
Summer school. Heeling that where
the Sumiuet School is most needed,
that it is most a necessity, wo have
recommended that the colored teachers
of 1 lorry county be given a Summer
School yearly and that the time

The work done by the teachers was
very commendable. The daily session
