Ben Hickman a negro who came
into town from the country, was
drunk on the streets here last Saturday
and ma le some attempts to
resist arrest when approached by
the town marshal. He was lined in ;
the sum of $1(1 which he promptly
paid.
?The postmasters of the county
will do us a great favor by forwarding
tho packages of the Hkhai.d as
rapidly as possible. We try to
mail the papers promptly, and they
will reach the subscribers on time
if the postmasters will do their duty
in this matter.
?A petition is being circulated I
asking the Governor to grant a com
mutation of sentence in the case of
II. G. McDaniols now serving a son\

ty jail. The prisoner is advanced
in years and the confinement is having
a bud eiFoct on his health,
?Adam Burroughs, a negro, was
arrested last Thursday at Reaves'
Ferry, by special constablo, If. N.
Sessions, on a warrant sent hero
from Georgetown, charging the
negro with selling property under
lion. After the arrost the sheriff
of Georgetown county was promptly
notified that the prisoner would
be held subject to his orders.
