district held an election on May 10,
for the purpose of submitting to
the tax payers of the district the
question of levying a special tax for
school purposes. The election carried
in favor of the levy.

it will lie a handsome addition
to the residence portion of the city.

Marsdon Woodbury, a colored
man, was committed to jail last.
Tuesday charged with an assault
with a deadly weapon and carrying
concealed deadly weapons about his
person. The warrant was issued as
n result of a row just outside the
town limits on last Saturday night.

and leg badly bruised and sprained
last Friday by b/mg thrown from a
molar ear on a spur track of the
Conway, Coast it Wi stern, built for

wish to call the matter to their attention

was canvassed by an agent of the
Pudding Committee of the Pros by
terian churches of this county, for
the purpose of erecting a parsonage
on t lie lot owned by the said churches
in Conway.
This attempt was nobly responded
to by the people in all parts of the
county and while the funds received
were not sulllciont to meet the demands
of the committee, it. is with
pleasure that we are allowed to
state, that all necessary arrangements
have been perfected for the
completion of the building and work
vill bo commenced at once. Contractor
Leslie of Newberry has the
work in hand and it will be pushed
to the utmost.. The Manse will
corner Fifth avenue and I?lin wood
street and when completed will be a
credit to the town and an honor to
the liberal donators.

to the young crops. The damages,
so far as we have heard, wore
heaviest in the neighborhood of I/i
bum post oflico, where the hail
stones were the largest that have
been seen in many years. The wind
was so strong at the home of Jack
Jones that it turned over a wash
pot and backed a cart some distance
from under a tree. Timber was
considerably damaged, all the loose
bark was beater, from the trunks of
the pine trees, and the lights in a
house near Jack Jones were broken
to pieces. The tobacco crops of
Allen Johnson and M. C, Johnsou
were almost ruined. The oat crops
of W. A. 1 lut'lies and Tom Floyd
were badly damaged. The crops of
many other farmers were damaged
more or less by the heavy hail stones.
Many farmers suffered in the neighborhood
of Momewood. L. 11. Burroughs
lost his crops at Savannah

to this attractive seashore resort is asked early in the
season; before making your plans for the summer, write for
booklet and particulars. Many improvements have been
made at the Inn since last season. The water supply has
been increased many thousands gallons; a new tank has been
erected six times the dimensions of the original; the toilet
and bath tubs have been put in perfect order, and other

' The bathing beach is unequalled upon the Atlantic coast; a
line surf, a clean shallow bottom covered with sand, safe
from undertow. At bathing hours the beach presents a

baths is not surpassed anywhere. The saltness of the ocean
air is always bracing, ami a short stay at Myrtle Beach seldom
fails to roil.so, even in an invalid, a desire to lead a
strenuous life. The hotel has its own water supply and
electric plant. The water is pure, from an artesian well Mm
feet deep. The iishin^ banks arc only two miles outside,
and there are always fishermen to take parties cut in a safe
stroneboat: besides the usual surf and crev k fishing is at
hand for those who do not care to tempt the deep.
Our aim will he to keep the hotel full at moderate
