At a meeting last Friday afternoon
of the trustees of Burroughs
graded school, all of the present
teachers wore reelected for the ensuing
term except Miss Leila Martin,
wiio did not put in an application for
reelection. A teacher will be selected
later on to fill her position.
?The strawberry season is now
about over. Owing to tin wet
weather, the season has not been
as long perhaps as it would have
been. Only small quantities are
being shipped away from this point
now. The losses to the growers
for the first four days of the car
shortage have boon compromised.
The other claims will be some time
in settling.
?The Summer school for the
public school teachers of Horry
county will probably begin on the
lirst Monday in Juno under the
management of Prof. B. J. Wells
and Miss McLean, the same teachers
as were employed to teach it
last year A definite statement will
be published soon as to the date
when the school will begin.
? We have received an invitation
to attend the commencement exercises
of the Central tiraded School
which for the past session has been
in charge of Prof. A. R. Stalvoy.
The program for exercises which
will begin on Monday May 2!Uh and
end on Tuesday, the followiyg day,
is an attractive one. Prof. Stalvoy
is to l)o congratulated on the success
of his school.
?The county hoard of education,
consisting of Superintendent of Ed_
ucation E. V. Rest. Dr. E. Norton
and Mr. O. J. Roll hold the regular
examination for applicants for teacher's
certificates here last Friday.
There were fifty-two applicants examined
and the successful list will bo
published latter on when the board
lias had time to pass on the examination
papers.
?Tho Horry County Medical
Society met 1 .st Monday evening
at the Kingston Hotel and effected
a complete and permanent organization.
Dr. J . S. Du.sen bury was
elected as Pros; Dr. J. W. Floyd,
Vice Pres; Dr. J. A. Norton, Sec.
and Treas A constitution and by
laws as recommerded by the State
Medical Association were adopted
in full. Several committees were
appointed.
?The Atlantic Coast Line Railroad
Co., have commenced the construction
of a Y shaped piece of track to
extend across from the A. C. L.
track at the trestle over the steep
gully to the Conway, Coast & Western
track running olT in the direction
of the Gully store. This
piece of track will enable the locomotives
to turn around without using
the turn table near Main street,
and when this piece of track is
finished the turn table will be taken
out.

the present Horry Herald, bearing
date September 3rd, 18f>!l, also a

space forbids. Wc are glad to receive
these old issues of our paper
because our files are short a few
copies and the issue of September

Conway needs electric lights and
is able to have them. We hope this
is a move which will result in light.

Trouble With Colored Hands Sus

The family of Mr J T. Sessions at
Ccbu a post ollice this side of Adrian
on A. C. L., were plunged into trou
hie last Wednesday by the receipt of
three telegrams concerning two of
Mr, Sessions' sons, W, J. and 11. II.
Sessions, who for several years past
have been living in the State of Mississippi.
Two of the telegrams intimating
that the
trouble, were sent on Sunday and
received on Wednesday; the third
had been sent on Tuesday and was
received at the same time as the
others. The last message referred
to, stated that W. J. Sessions was
dead and that II. II Sessions was in
jail at Bay St. Louis. Miss. The
messages gave no details. Mr. Sessions
had messages sent to different
points seeking further information
about the matter, but up to the latter
part of last week i o further details
had been learned. Attorney
H. II. Woodward was retained to
have the matter investigated, and
to go to the scene if necessary later.
II. II. Sessions for several years
has been manager for the Center
Turpentine Works at Caesar, Miss,
where he has made quite a success
W. J. Sessions has been holding a
position with a firm some fifteen
.niles from Caesar. Both of the
brothers worked large numbers of
negro hands and it is feared that it
is some trouble with these at the
bottom of the affair.
After sending telegrams to various
cities, Mr. Sessions has heard
nothing to verify any of the matters
as first reported about the serious
trouble in which his son's were supposed
to be.
Later. It is reported here that
Mr, II. II. Sessions came home from
Mississippi last Saturday and gives
the whole story. It is said that he
states that they had trouble with
some hands which his brother was
guarding. One of them seized his
rifle out of his hands and struck W.
J. Sessions on the head, fracturing
the skull. Ho was taken to New
Orleans by his firm for treatment
and was thought to be recovered
when discharged a short time ago,

Drains to l>v Located.
The commissioners of internal improvements
consisting of Col. (3. P.
Quattlebaum, Hon. It. H Scarborough,
and Mr. P. A. Burroughs,
have arranged .villi J. II. Dingle,
city engineer of the city of Charleston,
S. C., to come to Hon way,, look
over the ground and the maps and
surveys recently made by the town,
and give the benolit of his experience
in locating the drains in the best
possible way for the good drainage
of the town. As was statCd some
time ago, the commission will direct
its attention first to the low quar
tor of the town lying near 3rd avenue
and the stables and other buildings
on Laurel Street. After the
drainage of this portion of the town
has been effected, attention will be
directed to other portions of the
town. Mr. Dingle has had much experience
in the lino of his profession.
He was expected in town last Monday,
but he wired that he could not
possibly come until the lust of the
week. A car load of the best tiling
has been received and is stacked up
near the depot awaiting the location
of thfi drains.

J. J. Boyd, (whose nickname was
Can) son of Simon Boyd, was born
on AuL'Ust 30th 1878 and died May

brow, honesty, perseverance and industry
At the ago of twenty he
joined in wedlock the Christian daugh
tbr of the Kev I) I). Cox. She being
a devoted Christian, told him
many times that she wished him to
lead a Christian life, and walk in
Jesus name. Being so impressed by
these many kind words of Jesus and
his love, lie began to cultivate a
taste for reading his testament, and
when after reaching the age of twen
t \ -one he united with the Mnwilnn I
in Baptist church where lie was a
consistent member until his death.
Some timo before his death, ho
formed the habit of singing this
lovely son*?, "1 must tell Jesus all of
my troubles, I cannot bear those
burdens alone." There was atone
ol ringing melody pouring forth
from his lips when the lightning
Hashed over his body. His soul passed
from earth in the moment of
blissful melody. He lived with his
wife seven years, during which time
three lovely children were given hi in
which added much to his happiness,
lie was always a devoted husband,
and ever a kind and affectionate father.
Ho leaves a wife and three
children who still survive him and a i
host of friends to mourn their loss,
but their loss we hope is his eternal
gain.
So live that when this toilsome life
is ended, we will soar away to the
blissful realms above, where we can 1
sin# with angels around God's white
throne.
