The members of the Hoard of
County Commlss;oners were not upDointed
as early this year as usual
owing to some m'isuuderstanding or
disagreement among the county's
delegation in the I legislature. The
new Hoard was announced, however,
last week as consisting of Messrs 1>.
F. MuGougan of Green Sea and \V.
Ij. Singleton of Hacks township.
1'iioip commissions have been issued
and they are expected to <^o into office
at tlie .next regular meeting

in April The selections made are

in the affairs of the county with ability.
This is not saying anything
against the old board, Messrs. W. L.

passed the following resolution in
reference to the tax on do^s:
"Whereas, the Cencral Assembly
of the State of South Carolina has
imposed a taxon each doe in the
Stale of 50 cents, the sum realized
from this source to he applied to
the free public schools, and whereas,
the trustees of the schools are
particularly interested in the sum
to be so derived;
Therefore be it resolved:?That we

The Myrtle Beach Development
'ompany was organized here a few ,
lays ago with a capital stock of
175,000.00, for purpose of purchas
ing, improving and selling real estate,
and for the purpose of draining
and clearing the fertile swamplands
near Myrtle Beach. The large swamp
near Myrtle Beach, containing several
thousand acres, part of which
has already been cleared and found
to be very productive, will be drained
and cleared, and for this drainage
purposes the corporation has acquired
all the privileges of a drainage
corporation as provided by the
laws of the State.
That nortion of the swuirm lnnda
in that section which has boon cleared
has proved to be highly fertile
and productive. While large farms
have already been cleared, yet there
is room for still larger clearings,
and the main purpose of the company
is to drain and clear the large
areas of these uncleared lands.
Messrs. b\ A. Burroughs, B. (?.
Collins and J. E. Bryan are the officers
of the corporation, and the business
qualifications of these gentlemen
are a sure guarantee of the success
of this enterprise.
Teachers' Association.
The Teacher's Association met at
the Burroughs school building on
Satuiday, March the 18th, 11)05 at
eleven o'clock a m.
The Secretary, Miss Hurrelson,
not being present, Ed. Page was
appointed by Supt Best to act as
secretary. The topics for discussion
were as follows:
1st With what exercise should a
country school be opened? Discussed
by Prof. Kennedy, Cordie Page
and J. Li. Neoly.
2nd Best method of keeping order
in the school room. By Prof.
Kennedy.

week's issue did not appear together
with my statement exactly as 1
thought it was, but, however, that
is Mr. Moore's statement and not
mine. The clerk says he is going
out to look up those parties, and I
intend that all of them that are in
existance shall be found, and if
there are some who cannot bo found,
and the elerk pays such an amouat
as may be covered by those who
cannot bo found, that will be sufficient,
and it is a fact now that he
is under papers suflicicnt to cover
the amount. It had been disputed
that he had made any security whatever,
but it is a fact, that 1 hold
papers against lii-n for a sufficient
amount to cover any and ail of the
shortage Now as I have not tried
toiclloct on any one I hope this
will give satisfaction. A gain I will
