A Cotton Association Rally.
Editor Herald-.- -'Wo wish to
make a few statements to t lie people
of Horry through .your paper in
regard to the Cotton Association.
You have all read what this associ
ation stands for, and. what it is
working to accomplish. Carried

of the South than anything else or
all the politicians have ever done.
Though in its iufancy. a mere com
prehension of the scope <>f ils work
has raised the price oi cotton eight
or ten dollars per bale, and if wo
organize enthusiastically and build
our warehouses we will get ton
cents for our cotton next fall and
bo in a position thereafter to meet
any cmorgouey that may arise.
Now, then, we want to inaugurate
a series of "Association Rallies,"
beginning at Conway the first Monday
in April at 11 o'clock, and then
at some convenient place in another
township the next month, and soon
through the county. Gentlemen,
the cottou association has come
here to stay. It will be hero as
long as you live, and you had just as
well join now. Call a meeting at
your school house or voting precinct
at once and organize by electing a
president, a vice-president and a
secretary and a treasurer. Then
elect five delegates to Conway the
first Monday in April. Everybody
in the county should attend the
Conway rally. We have invited Mr
E. I). Smith, general field agent for
the South, and Mr. J. A. Brown,
one of the directors in the national
association, to bo present at Conway.
These are fiue speakers and
you will never regret going to hear
them. Besides these men. we ask
Mr. Scarborough to speak on the
t"\ nn^l /-?t r??w#nv? Inn I1T 1 '

on the need of publicity, Mr. D. A.
Spivoy on the position of t he Southern
Bankers, I)r. A. B. Walter on
the effect of the price of cotton on
liis profession, and one from each
township will be called 011.
We wish to say that this is going
to be a very important meeting as
we must decide whether any cotton
warehouse will be built at Conway
fur the benefit of the farmers and
bankers of this county. They arc
going to build warehouses at Marion,
Latta, and Dillon in Marion
county, and to be sure, Conway will
be progressive enough to build one.
Now, you farmers of lower Horry
should be present and look aftci
this thing. Up here we can con
veniontlv store our cotton at Marion
or Mullins.
Now, fellow farmers, organize af
once all ovtr the county and fall ir
line. If you don't, it is because
you are too ignorant to sec youi
own interests, livery farmer whe
doesn't join this association must
be either a drone, a fool or a knave

Spring is here with its sweet
scented flowers, the buzzing of insects,
and singing of birds. All
this makes the farmers know it is
tunc to be hustling.
Some of our farmers are behind s
with their work, but hard work V
and skillful management will prob- s

end. I have seen several fields of c

forded him plenty of time to get togcther
a crowd of young people,
and as soon as dark all put out on
an opossum hunt, but what was
worse, the crowd was again disappointed
by having to return with
