There was an investigation at Loris last Thursday, before Judge J. E. Prince, in which the parties were represented bv attorneps from the Conway bar. The case was finally continued and notice, of appeal was given. A survey of the town is being made by the commissioners of internal Improvements preparitory to put ting in it system of drainage. Some move hits been looked for and it will 1); gratifyintf to know that at last a step has been taken in the direction df good drainage. Krnest lleaty is the surveyor. ?On last Kri lay, the following persons were baptized by the Rev. J. L. Shinn, pastor of the Raptist church: Misses Eulee Tisdale, liessie Durbago, Blanche DeHory. and Douglas Burbtge, and Julian Diis- | enbury. He states that he has added eighteen to the church since he has been hero, and on next Sunday night he will deliver a Temperance sermon, to which everybody is invit ed. ?There were two escapes from the county ehvn gang last week, one lining a negro by the mime of Sam Wilson, the other a white man, Albert Rogers It turned out that Wilson was oily trying to escape from one squad of the gang to get into another. After staying out for a day or two he turned up at Conway and stated to the authorities that he wanted to work in the other squad under Cnpt. Todd. Miss Rosie Jordan opened tho exer ciscs by reciting, ''Little girls fancy" and was followed by Clarence Jordan on the "Man that sings so loud." Next came Miss Annio Hux with a recitation ontltled, "Tho swallow and I," followed by Miss. Mary Cooper, "Little Bunnies " Next came Master Frank Johnson, "Mary's little lamb. " "Tho bright sido," by Miss Annio Skipper; "Lit tie white lillie," by Noal Jordan; "Little beginnings," by Miss Froslio Hyman; "The little shade" by Miss Laura Johnson; "How to do right," by Miss Adline Jordan. A school order for 116.40 issued by the trustees of the Hulls Island school in 1H01, in pay men t of a sup posed claim to one Charley Cox for digging an artesian well, lias resulted in a prosecution against the trustees of that school for a misappropriation of funds or a like charge. It is asserted by some of those interested that Cox was under contract to get a flow at the well for a certain sum, and as he failed to get a flow, he was not entitled to any pay. The charge against the trustees will be tried at I.oris before Magistrate I'rinco on April 20th, and will doubtless awaken some interest in that section of the connty. Cast) was Compromised. The store building lately occupied by the postofllcc was claimed by two different business concerns, each contending that they had rented the store from Mr. Collins the owner. II. \Y. Mishoe?& Co., were in possession of the store with a stoek of goods, and the other claimant, Davis & Co , brought a proceeding before Magistratee J. N. Jenrette and Daniel Grainger charging a forcible entry and detainer, to decide the right to the store. Last Friday was t he day fixed for the trial and the jury had been summoned to try the ease, but the parties compromised and the matter was thus ended, Davis Co., getting the store.
