THURSDAY FEB. 2nd 1005. 1
Some people are entirely too careless
uoQut getting safe titles to lands 1
nr.rl mnnv tliinlf if of nn imnr.clano.
to have a deed recorded. The time 1
is near at hand when a very small 1
tract of land will be moro valuable
than a very large tract used to bo.
A little care will oftcu prevent a ,
law suit at some future time.
The oyster and clam question is
up again in tho papers and the Legislature
is beiug urged by some citizens
to try to pass some legislation,
that will protect tho shell fish of our
coast. The masses of the people
have been resorting to tho natural
beds for oysters and clams from
time immoriona), and we suspect,
thero are some Legislators who v;ll
hesitate about taking away this right
that the people havo enjoyed so
long. While enjoying the right,
they havo over dono it and have
torn up these natural bods so that
shell fish are not as plentiful as
they used to be.
It seems that it is now up to the
town council to do or not to do, in
respect to the new school building
and the issue of bonds for internal
improvements. In a long article a
few weeks ago, a leading citizen
called upon the authorities for some
statement of the status of both of
these matters, but the request has,
so far, hocn entirely ignorod, so far
as tho paper is concorned. And if
the writer of tho article mentioned,
has had any information given him
in answer to his questions, it was
given to him privately and not in
public print.
The way that false report* gain
currency in a community and are
scattered far and near through tho
country, is often amazing. The town
council recently passed a compulsory
vaccination ordinance and there
was not one word contained in it
concerning the vaccination of persons
coming into tho town from
the country, yet some silly peoplo,
wo have no idea who they are, have
been industriously telling eycry
where they went, that everv*^jarmei?,
or other person as to. Vtiat matter,
wno came into ^jtfnway had to be
vaccinated^^ijho jg being told
^^f^^ii<oms\Tl^b difTerontly in different
sections of the county. In some
places It is to the effect that a visitor
hore from the conn try must be
vaccinated before ho is permitted to
enter, in others it is told that if a
person, who has not been vaccinated
comes to town, ho will be held
and not permitted to dopart until
the vaccine goes into his arm IIow
ridiculous it is that people will give
currency to flimsy stories before
they have had time to enquire into
the matter! The town, in the first
place, has no right, even if it wanted
to do such a thing, to vaccinate
any person, a mere visitor, against
his will. The town has been quarantined
against peoplo suffering
^ from small pox and against persons
V who are suspected of having been
exposed to the disease, but the town
has no idea of trying to vaccinate
the county when it wants to come
into the town. Tho lie is hereby
given to all such false reports.
