Some seventyfive persons took it in from this point. ?The showers recently have been frequent and just at the right time for the maturing of the corn crops. The yield of corn all over Horry county promises to be very abundant this year. ?News reached here last Friday that the ginnery at Savage, S. C., belonging to- the estate of the Into Jos. W. Hooks. ?News was received in Conway last Monday of the death of the Rev. T. II. Reynolds at Williamston, S. C. Ho was here a year or two ago on the Conway and Cool Springs circuit and is remembered by many friends. His remains wero laid to rest at Harlem, On. ?Vrof. R. J. Wells left Conway ^ last Saturday to spend the vacation before entering upon his duties in his new field of work at Hopkins near Columbia. He will spend most of the time at Rock IIill. We received several this week signing a fictitious name, and tho true name of the writers no whero appeared. Residence Struck by Lljrhtnlng. The residence of Mrs Laura Anderson was struck by lightning during a rain and thunder storm last Tuesday afternoon. The bolt first struck a dead tree rear the end of ' the cottage, then went through1 tho roof and the gable end tearing off the cornor boards, demolishing the plastering |in tho room" inside, and tearing up a small portion of the roof. Coles The tobacco crop is much smaller in Horry than I expected to lind it. 1 The crop is generally good, and with favorable weather, there will be a nice lot of good tobacco in tho ( countv. From present indications and the appearance of the crop cured, the i>ouudM per acre will be ' much greater than last year. The crop is in progress of curing all j over the county, and the cures made thus far are reported good. The tobacco now coming to the * warehouse looks well for "Sand Lugs." . 1 will open the Conway market early as practicable this season. There is more desire among tho buyers to r come to Conway this year than I have ever knowr. heretofore. Mr. F. C. Spencer will again represent '1 the American, and Mr. C. A. Jones the Imperial at Conway. I look for good prices, and will 1 do my best to make them better than good for all who will sell with j me I want the Horry planters to grade, and tie ah their tobacco. Edwards, proprietor of % the Peoples Tobacco Warehouse, v arrived in the city hist Monday to begin his work in the interest of . his house this season. The friends of James Smart, an p industrious and prosperous farmer | of the Dongola section, were sorry to hear of his death which occured p on Wednesday evening of last week, d While working in the timber busi ness last winter, he was severely injured by the falling of a stick of j ti.nber against his side, and it is J thought that from this injury he never fullv recovered, and it brought on the troubles that finally ended in j* his death. He was a good citizen q and a very industrious man, such j as the county cannot well afford to lose. He loaves a wife and several children surviving him. The funeral tool; place at Pauley t Swamp last Friday at 8 o'clock. t An infant son of Rev. and Mrs. s B. A. Elks died on June 11th 1904, r at the age of two months and two s days. The interrinent took place at Socastec M. E. church on Sunday at five o'clock. L a 5 The little child of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. II. Little died here last week e and was buried at the new cemetery, c & Mrs. Mary Page of Exile died last \ Sunday. She was a daughter of Mr. (j and Mrs. Win. Page. ^ ?Mrs. Carrie B. Galbraith died here at her residence last Sunday and the funeral took place on the A following day at the Presbyterian \ church in tho presence of a large \ crowd of relatives and friends. t ' v A OIIITIAKV. | James Smart was born on Oct. v 23rd. 1854 and died on July Gth, 1904, at the age of 49 years. Me was a good man, had many friends ^ and is greatly missed in the com- } munity. On Sunday before his death he went over to the beach and started back home on Tuesday. He never reached s home. When e he got as far on his 'way back as " James Howell's he died. Drs. . Thompson and James Norton wore 11 called and did all they could for him ? but to.no avail. QKind friends gathered around his bed-side and min- ^ istered to him, but it was God's will I to take him. He said "I am going to that hotter world, so good bye fl my love till wo meet on thpt better 0 shore." He loaves a wife and four U children, an aged father and mother, four brothers, five sisters and many ^ other relatives and friends to mourn ( their loss. ^ Dearest husband thou has left us, c And thy loss wo deeply feel, 1 f Hut 'tis God who has bereft us, f He can all our sorrows heal.
