Rain is needed very much, but
crops are not suffering so badly yet.
It has been reported in this section
that 1'. C. Survis, the contractor
for the new bridge across Pleasant
Meadow Swamp, has thrown up
the job. We are sorry to hear this
but from the present sight it must
be true by the way the lumber is
scattered over the swamp by the
sounding of the hammer and tho
singing of tho saw.
Wedding bells may probably ring
soon, but you can 't sometimes always
tell.
A. L. Mincy of Wilmington si>ent
last week at home to rest up awhile
and catch some fresh Horry air and
fish. He caught one black fish that
didn't quite weigh eighteen pounds.

and less tobacco than last season.
We are delighted at the prospects of
good prices from both cotton and
tobacco. Should the prices of these
two articles prove to be what is
now contemplated, the indications
arc for better times in this locality.
Mr. W. J. llendrick has already
gathered and cured one barn of
tobacco.
Mr. 13. H. Martin has a nico saw
mill at Punch Bowl and is turning
out quite a quantity of lumber which
tie sells at Georgetown.
Our people were very much delighted
at the recent visit of Rev.
F. H. Martin, many of thein attending
church at Cedar Grove church
where he preached on Sunday while
here. This is the Doctor's old home
and our people are very proud of

Death at Gurlcy.
Daniel Anderson died at his homo
at Gnrley on Juue 25th 1904, in
his 49th year.
Mr. Anderson was a good neighbor,
husband and father. He joined
the Missionary Baptist church
at Cain Branch and afterwards
moved his membership to New
Light Baptist church where he remained
until his death. He was a
leader in the Sunday school here
and as long as he was able his seat
was never vacant. He was an inlustrious
man. The funeral took
place at the home of Mr. Anderson,
jonducted by the Rev. C. E. Robertson
at Conway. His remains
were laid away at the Anderson
graveyard. Ho leaves a wife two
ions, four daughters and five brothers
and a host of friends to mourn
