?Lori8 Tobacco Warehouse is now
open for sale of leaf tobacco under
the management of King <fe Graham
of Winston, N. C.. who say that
they are now ready for tobacco and
guarantee satisfactory prices for the
weed.
?Hon. J. P. Dcrham has entered
the race for the Senate and his card
appears in this issue. No man in
the county has had a longer or bet ter
records n the service of the people,
and lite needs no introduction
from us.
?The county summer school closed
last week and all the teachers
have returnd to their homes. The
school was very succcssfull in its
work, and the teachers are to be
commended for the interest they
showed in the school.
?The changes in the schedules of
the star mail routes went into effect
last Friday. All the mail on the
star routes comes in now in the
forenoons and leaves here in the afternoons
after the train mail has
been received.
?Complaints have reached us
lately that subscribers of the II krai.d
fail to getj their mail regularly at
certain ollices. The postmasters
will oblige us greatly by being
careful in handling the paper. We
hate to complain, and hope we will
not hereafter be compelled to do so.
-M. M. Stanley is running to fulfil
his attempt made at the last election.
He came out two years ago,
at the solicitation of his friends, but
was compelled to withdraw before
the canvass was over by force of circumstances
at his home, lie feels
t hat he owes it to his friends to
make the race now.
? H. C. Cannon lias resigned his
former position at Myrtle Beach
with theShini.de Manufacturing Co.,
and has taken charge of the large
farm of Burrouphs & Collins Co.,
there. J. W. Cook now has charge
of the work in the timber department
for the shingle company.
?The usual Friday evening ox
cursion last week was attended by
a larger crowd than usual. The
wild west show that had been billed
to come off at the court house
was induced to go on to Myrtle
Beach and give the performance
there. This perhaps had the etVect
of enlarging the crowd that went
over.
?The trucking season is over.
Wires were being received last, week
stating that cucumbers were not
wanted at any price. Some of the
recent shipments failed to pay the
expenses of shipment.. The markets
are now being supplied with cucumbers
from nearer points and this has
been given a* a reason why it will
not now pay to ship cucumbers from
I..is point.
? Representatives from the various
churches of the Waccamaw Baptist.
Association met hero last Monday
for the purpose of bidding adieu
to the Rev. 1). l?\ Crosland, who
has been called to a foreign Held.
The meeting was enthusiastic in the
interest jf foreign missions. A committee
was appointed to arrange for
rallies at the different churches and
to fix the dates therefor.
Excursion July 9tti
The tivst - white excursion of the
season fr?n this point to Georgetown
will come off on July 9th, and
will be run by Geo. G. Marsh and
W. W. Russ. A big crowd is expected
and they may bo assured
that good order will be maintained.
The New Steamer.
A car load of the heavy material
for the erection of the new passen ger
steamer arrived last Tuesday.
The rest of the hull will soon follow

Thecasi^of Molsey Grainger vs.
Levi Grainger and others under petition
for dower was to have been
tried in the Probato Court hero last
Friday, but on account of absence
of some of the witnesses, tho case
had to be continued until another
day. The petitioner js represented
by Ford D. Bryant, Esq., of the
Marion bar, and the respondents by
lion. Robt. B. Scarborough. Quite
a number of people it seems, aro interested
in the case.

Mrs. Lizzie Scssious fell from the
upper to the lower deck while on
board the steamer Burroughs last
Wednesday on her way to George- |
town. She intended to go
with Mrs. B. G. Collins and family
to Hendersonville, N. C., to spend l
tlie summer witn them. She was
standing near the stair-way when
the boat suddenly lurched and she 1
fell.down to the lower deck, receiving
serious and painful injuries.
She did not continue her journey *
but came back on the return trip of
the steamer from Georgetown. She ]
was recovering at last accounts.

In loving memory of my father,
William Putman Melson, who relinquished
his claim of life in this ,
world, on June 29th, 11103, at the age
of 32 years.
The bitter and the sweet are closely
blended, in the thought, that ?
one year ago to-day, our dear father
smiled upon us in the morning, and
ere the noon time came, the cheer
ful voice wo loved was hushed forever.
Today we know that God know
best, and with the rememberancc of
the sweet untiring devotion and affection,
which lie gave his family,
and the many seeds of kindness,
quietly scattered during his active ,
and useful life, brings comfort to (
the hearts that adored him.
Home is broken and lonely with
his presence gone, but his task was 1
finished, and while our sorrow of 1
parting from him can never heal,
the belief that he is united with our
| dear mother, for whom he grieved,
I and that he realized Christ's promise,
in which he lived, that ''1 will
} not leave you comfortless, I will
como unto you;" we can but bow i
| in silent resignation to the Divine
Will, but ever will we yearn for the
touch of a vanished hand, and for 1
the sound of a voice that is still.

Death ef H. Van Duscnbury.
10. Van Dusenburv died nt. TiMn**
enco last Wednesday at the homo of
his brother, 8. S. Dusenbury. His
remains were brought through Conway
on Thursday, and taken to Un (
ion church near Toddville, where the ,
funeral services were conducted by
the Rev. J.E. Carlisle and the Rov.
E. L. Hodges, in the afternoon at 4
o'clock, in the presence of one of
the largest congregations that ever ;
gathered at the church. He was
forty-two years of age and had suffered
constantly from rheumatism 1
since his boyhood years. The dis- 1
ease was the primary cause of his
death. He had never left his invaI
lid's chair since 1900. !
During all his years of pain it was
very remarkable how he endured
with cheerfulness the suffering he
was required to txar. No man in
the community had more sinccro i
friends or a greater number.
The cheerfulness and wonderful
patience with which he bore his sufferings,
without a murmur or complaint,
always won him the entire
sympathy and friendship of all lie ,
met.
He was secretary of the Conway
Bargain House and the J. A. Mo
Dermott Company, and as long
as he* was able to do so, he kept
the books for both of these corporations.
He was an export bookkeeper,
and took a great pride in the
neatness and aecurateness of his
work.
Such a life as he led is bound to
have an influence for good.
