No town in South Carolina, of the
same si/.c and resources, lias made
more rapid progress during the last
three years, than our own.

Conway is a good opening for almost
any kind of business. Whenever
a busiucss fails here it may
safelj' bo put down to lack of good
judgment and management, but not,
in anysenso, to its location.

Thk County Executive committee
meets hero on next Tuesday to arrange
the dates and the places for
tlie county campaign meetings, and
to attend to other important busi*
ness. We know of 110 change that
is likely to be made in the usual
schedule of appointments. The State
candidates will also meet here next
Tuesday and make their addresses
to the people.

It is time to bey in to push the
claims of Conway as a tobacco market,
While tho tobacco business
cannot be what it was last year and
the year before, yet whatever it
amounts to, Conway wants to sell
her sharo. The claims of other markets
will no doubt bo pushed with as
much energy as ever. Conway
should sell hcrjfull share of the weed,
and it seems that it is now high time
that her warehousemen were up and
doing.

Tiie people of I lorry county seem
to enjoy the gatherings at picnics
held quito frequently at this season
of the year. One drawback to the
usual pleasure of such occasions, is
the presence of some person or per sons
who will become too full of
whiskey and will persist in trying to
raise a row with somebody, to the
terror and disgust of all law abiding
persons, It is to be regretted that
such an evil is so often heard of Oil
nAnfieinne nf ft,io L-iivrf "I?
to think that it is'necessary to state
beforehand, in advertising and talking
of these picnics, t hat officers of
tho law will be on hand to see that
good order is maintained, but such
is the ease. The law is the only
remedy for such an evil, and the
more strictly it is enforced against
such persons, the less of the evil will
there appear.
