near Conway on Wednesday, April

The Hon. Robt. B. Scarborough
went to Georgetown on legal busi
ness last week returning on Thursday.
N. W. Graddy of Galivants Ferry
township, a, much respected citizen,
died at his home on last Friday
of paralysis.
The Rev. G F. Stanley will
preach the funeral of h ranees' Hardee,
on next Sunday at the Boyd
burying ground near Boris.
The Beulah Sunday School Insti
tute was held at Ml. Elvey church
in theSanford section last Sunday.
There was a large attendance.
A contract hus just been closed
with S. T. Neal under which he will
have charge of the Peoples Tobacco
Warehouse this year.
C. L. Huggins of Galivants Ferry
was in town last Friday and Saturday

compelled to take a vacation from
his work on account of his health
and he will spend some time at the
Springs.
There will bo a moonlight excursion
to Myrtle Reach next Monday
evening over the Conway Seashore
railroad, run by Ceo. L. Marsh and
Chas. Thompson.

Crops over the county are some
what backward owing to the cool
weather. Hot weather is at hand
now, however, and this with showers
now and then will make up for
what has been lost, we hope.
A suppoena for Gen. J. I'. Durham
as a witness in the case of the
State against P \V. Sandifer and
others to be tried at Barnwell, has
been received and served by the
Sheriff.
The Judge of Probate went to Lo
ris last Thursday for the purpose of
holding an examination and ccm initting
rs. Orphic Powell to the
State Hospital for the Insane. The
examination was conducted by Dr.
H. H. Burroughs and Dr. A. H. J.
Galbraith.
Mr. U. H. Owens who was with
Capt. Coles at the llorry Warehouse
last year, will be at the Hor ry
again this season. The tobacco
planters will be pleased to know
that Mr. Owens will be with Capt.
Coles. He made quite a favorable
impression upon our people last
year.
We arc requested to state that
W. Boyd Jones, the prosperous
young merchant at Justice, is not
the author of the article appearing
iff these columns, not long since,
signed "Horry Friend." This to
correct a wrong impression which
seems to exist in the minds of some

The fcir?t TobaccO Leaf.
The first tobacco leaf of the scasou
to be seen at this ofllco was scut
in last Friday by R Livingstone of
Little River. It measured 19 inches
long by 8 inches across at the widest
point. We have not heard of any
this large in any other part of the
county.

The Duront 5>urvey.
The survey of the land comprised
in the Durant claim is being made
| this week by the\surveyors appointed
by the rule of survey, and M. F.
jSarvis of Bucksville. The plain
tilT's are represented by Joe Bruuson
of Florence, the defendants by
J. M. Johnson Jr., of Marion.
Edwards Nominated.
According to The News of Lynchburg,
Va., John T. Edwards, who
lias been employed as manager of
the Lor is Tobacco Warehouse, has
been nominated by Virginia tobae
eonists tor ihe position of assistant
on the Virginia Commission of the
St. Louis Exposition, as a representative
of the tobacco interests of
the State. The News is very high
in its praise of Mr. Edwards as a
tobacco man.

SMITH -DUSENBURY.
The Methodist church here was
the scene of another wedding on the
evening of April 30th. The contracting
parties were Miss "Julia C.
Smith of Georgetown and Mr. Eustiee
E. Dusenbury.
The attendants were Misses Belle
Dusenbury of Conway, Ella McNabb
of Adrian, Fannie Anderson of Eddy
Lake, Clara Lewis of Conway,
and Messrs John N. Daniels, H. B.
Prince, fl. Warwick, and Dr. W.
E. McCord. To the inspiring
strains of the wedding march, beautifully
rendered by Mrs Chas. H.
Snider, the attendants marched
down the aisles of the church in the
usual way, followed by the bride
and groom. A half circle was formed
in front of the chancel where the
ceremony was performed by the
Rev. J. E. Carlisle pronouncing
them man and wife.
The bridesmaids all wore very becoming
gowns of white organdy and
the. groomsmen were dressed in regulation
black. The bride was handsomely
gowned in white organdy
and was charming and pretty.
The bride is a daughter of Mrs.
C. W. Smith?Reynolds of Georgetown.
The groom is a son of Mr.
and Mrs Geo. II. Dusenbury and
holds a responsible position with
the Conway Lumber Co.
After the ceremony, there was a
reception at the new home just com
pleted by the groom on 6th Avenue.
