last week which beats anything we

of the colored school, at the county
court house last Monday evening
given by the Armstrong Brothers.
The entei tainmcnt was spoken of in
the highest terms by those who attended,
and as being high class in
every respect.

Destitute and almost without a
friend, T. II. Waterman, who it is
said, years ago, lived in tin; town,
has been wandering about the
streets. Our cold night last week,
the county jail was the only place
where he couid find a lodging. It is
said that ho has just escaped from a
poor house in Florence Such cases
excite pity.
On last Sunday evening about
dark, a couple went to the Motho
dist parsonage and were married by
the Rev. J. W LI kins, the only
witness being the minister's wife.
Curiosity ran high when the news
spread on Monday morning, and
many questions were put to Mr. Likins.
Hut all in vain, the minister
had promised to keep the secret until
Wednesday, which of course he
did. The contracting parties were
Miss Julia Woodard and Mr. C.
H. Little.
A number of our citizens met at
the school building recently to dis

have one for the benefit of the
public, at the Burroughs school
building, on Christmas ni"ht. B. J.
Wells, I). A. Spivey, C. II. Snider,

selected as a committee of arrangements.
An invitation to participate
was extended to the three Sun
day Schools and the Burroughs Graded
School. It is hoped that everybody
will aid in making it a success.
