Watermelon Party. "
Only those who have enjoyed the
generous hospitality of Mr. James
loore and family, on the Cool Spring
oad, can appreciate the pleasure of
visit there, on the evening of Satrday,
Jidy 10th. The occasion was
, watermelon party.
In the shade of a large tree on the
awn was a table loaded with melns,
not in stingy segments, or in
neasured .slices, but melons in
lalvcs, one-or more to each guest.
Vnd such melons! large, extra large,
nd larger still, oblong and round,
lain green rinds and striped black
eeded and white, but all crimson
learted and richly lucious and sweet.
Micro was no stint, or limit to aayhing
except a physical ability to
[ratify the demands of the appetite,
t was one of the occasions when
here was no eleventh hour, as the
Lite arrivals fared as well as those
irst in the field.
The enjoyment, o. the bountiful re
>ast was only exceeded by the
Measure arising from the cordial
welcome and the genial warm-heart*
dness of the host and hostess.
On leaving each guest carried as a
ouvenier a melon for his Sunday
linner. As a toast, "The Moore's!

weather, this year's crop is as linej
as the average. They have been
coming ir. to town now for several
weeks past. A tine lot comes in by
train every day or two, and they
are brought in by cartloads almost
daily. And most of them are line
melons, some of them are as line as
yen over saw.
There will be a picnic at McQueens
bridge cn Lake Swamp on Saturday,
Aug. 9th, next. All are invited to
be present with wcll-lilled baskets,
a.id all the candidates arc invited to
attend and make speeches.
