modern methods by all means within
their reach, for upon them r sts
the duty of training Horry's coming
men and women.

is a medium that never fails to
briii# good returns. The merchant
at the county seat can reach through
its columns, all of the good people
of a large county. We do not mean
to say that our space ever goes "a
begging ' as the saying goes, for
we have bids for our space, and good
ones at that, from people outside of
the county who know that the 11 Kit
Ai.n is an old established paper with
a bona fide subscription list; but we
wish our home advertisers to understand
that we arc for everything
that will advance home industry and
enterprise, and we want them to
take and hold every advantage they
can over foreign concerns.
The Approaching Campaign.
The candidates who will soon do
clarc themselves for the various offices
in the gift of the county, should
be prepared, when they canvass
the county in . he coming campaign,
to show the people that they are
competent and worthy to fill the
positions they see v. They shouldpiot
expect to be elected by reason of
some mere 'political prejudice, or
expect to win by reasou of the de
merits of some other candidate, they
should be able to show that they
have merit themselves to 'recommend
them to the people, and they
should ask the votes of the people
upon their fitness and qualifications
for the office they wish.
The campaign should be conduc
ted on a high and honorable plane.
Horry county has had as clean campaigns
in the past as any county in
the State, we believe. Her cam
paigns in the past have been on a
higher plane than the campaigns, in
many counties in the State. The
county has no bad reputation in this
matter, so far, ar d candidates, voters,
all hands together, should try
to make the campaigns of the tu
ture, at least a*> good as in the past,
and if possible, better.
The people should be ?*ell inform
* ed us to the character and fitness of
each candidate that offers, for the
simple reason that it is their duty to
elect only the best men to fill the
offices. Therefore, every man of voting
age should take time to attend
the campaign meetings, and in oth
er ways keep himself posted, so
that when the time comes to east
his ballot, he can east it intelligently.
We are aware that there
are men who not only fail to attend
the campaign meetings, but never
go near the polls on election day.
A man of this kind cannot be called
a true citizen. What would become
of all government, were all men
like him who takes no interest whatever
in the political affairs of his

Our attention was called to tin*

last issue. It is a plain statement
of facts as we believe every word he
said is true. The Supervisor made
no mistake in selecting Harrison AI
ford us guard for chain gang and
W. J Howell as road overseer.
These gentlemen have the confidence
of our entire community and arc
well tittted for the positions they
hold. The Supervisor goes further
and says, that if lie could see as far
as 41 Forecast" he could make more
of a lirst class Superv.sor. Coreeast
can see the hand writing on the
wall.

hundred and twenty-live years ago.
The condition of a subject of England
is more to he desired than that
of a subject ground down by the
money power of this country. We
hope that the time will soon come
when we will be delivered from this
evil.
