Lack of atteuti >n to business is
the main reason' why many people
never succeed in this life. The man
who is found at his post of duty,
whether it is a private business, or
a public otlicc, is prepared to take
advantage of every opportunity that
may prcsontdtsclf to advaiua hi> interests,
while opportunities pass by
unknown to him who is careless of
his duty.
T: c restoration of a former schedule
on this branch of the Atlantic
Coast Line, by which the train lies
over at Chadbourne at night instead
of at Conway, bringing in the pas
sengers and the mail ut li o'clock in
the afternoon and returning to Chadbourn
in time to connect with the
southbound from Wilmington; will
be perfectly satisfactory to the people
of Conway so far as getting their
mail is concerned. And with a new
schedule over the main line to points
North in the afternoon, there will
be no long, a i day wait at Chadbourn.
The *. >uble daily service
will still be m.tintnined during the
trucking season, e.n 1 truck raisers
can therefore Inu no objection to
the new arrangement
The only element which will per
haps find some objection to the
change, will be those who were not
satisfied with the schedule before,
and sent in a petition asking that
the schedule be changed so that the
train would lie over at Conway,
leaving here n the morning nnd returning
at night. Experience has
now shown that the former schedule
is the best for all concerned and

When there happens to be a short
crop year, the farmers of the county j
as a rule, do not have much of a balance
left after paying their guano
and other bills, and some of them
may lack something of paying out.
The effect is to east a damper upon
the usual liveliness of trade, the farmer
feels discouraged, the merchants
and other business men become blue,
and the general cry of ' hard times"
goes up from all over the land.
The year which will soon close,
has been an unfavorable one to our
farmers, the cotton and corn crops
were cut short, first by the wot
weather, then by the drought. Ilut
our farmers and the people generally,
should not get in tl?e habit of crying
'hard times"too much, because they j
happen to feel a little blue over
present circumstances. The results I
this year have turned out to be much
better than was expected. Just so
next year will probably be a much
better year than many predict it to
be. The better way to do is to try
