Tnr. success of a nowspupor depends
upon the interest taken it*, its

that it receives from t his source.
The year is drawing toward its close
and there are many, to whom we
have advanced the paper, still hehiud
with the dues which they honestly
owe. We are forced to ask
them to come in and settle these
dues. We sent the paper in perfect
good faith, we need the inonep now
and we must have it.
In some parts of the county the
soil is well adapted to the growing
of pears. Many who do not grow
the fruit for market, have planted u
few trees in their gardens and realize
from them more than enough
for family use. It would be easy to
get up a good exhibit of pears for
the Exposition. Fine specimens of
the Keifer pear can be seen any day
in riding through the country.

Rooskvklt's expressions of good
feeling toward the South may have
raised him somewhat in the estimation
of some Southern people, but
the etTectof *u '^expressions, if any,
is doubly oflfsi by his dining a ne
gro. In fact vc do not think the
southern people will ever be able to
forget this circu mice, no matter
what the Pres'uhnt's policy toward
the South may be. Such an act may
appear allright to the President's
mind, yet we hardly see how it can.
But of this we arc sure, that the
dining of a negro by the President,
i$ an act. which fills southern poo
