Wo publish litis work the final
prosontuu nt of tlio yrnnd jury of Iho

some interesting reading. The subject
it mentions which is of n>ost im
portancn, is the mutter of a new
court house ami jail. We agree
with the grand jury that it is ice
essary to accommodate the growing
population of the county.
We are informed that the Atlantic
Coast Line authorities are claim
ing that it does not pay them to
run a passenger train over their road
to this place, and for that reason
are trying to obtain the consent of
the Railroad Commission to take
the passenger train off.
The people all along the road and
especially the people of Con vay will
find it to their interest to protest at
once, in the most vigorous way they
can, against depriving us oi tins
passenger service If the passenger
train is discontinued, the want
of quick communication with tin
main line alChudbourn, will be felt
more keenly th m ever, as for the
past few months we have had reasonably
good passenger service.
That it docs not pay is no ground
for takings off the passenger train.
As long as the Atlantic Coast Line
system pays as a whole, the railroad
company should be forced, if forced
it can be, to furnish good passenger
trair.s 011 all its branches, as important
as this branch is said to be.
Railroad corporations enjoy privileges
and rights not granted to private
individuals They owe it as a
duty to the public to render something
in return. Let the passenger
train b2 continued. \\"?' need it.
Proposes to Fight Them on It
Editor Hkhald:? 1 notice in your
last issue a paragraph of news that
is anything but pleasant, viz. that
the A. C L. K R. Co. proposes to
discontinue the passenger train on
the Conway Oranch.
We trust that the Railroad Com
inissioners will not allow this to hi'
done They have the power to pro
vent it. and if thev do not exercise
it, we must see to it at the next primar
' that we secure a successor
for Chairman Wilburn who will
stand by us.
The claim is made, so we hear,
that this railroad does not pay it.>
operating expenses. If that be true,
it is a strange condition, for it
was considered a desirable property
when the Atlant ic Coast Line Co
bought it, and it is potent that the
business of the roa.1 has increased
Some of our public men mhd i a fight
agabist the railroad nearly a year
ago to effect tie* putting on of it
passenger train, and the improved
service ha-? been :i great help and
convenience to us. It is the duty of
every man in Horry to Join in urg

C?minissioners ]f the Company
