Burroughs" over at the ship yard Some of our people arc planning a trip to the Fan-American Exposi tion at BufTalo. Cotton and corn crops are reported as looking bad in many sections of the county. Too much rain very likely. Auditor Jas. A. Lewis is making arrangements for the erection of a handsome cottage on his lot on 5th Avenue On last Tuesday the County Board of Commissioners duly elected Mr. G B red Stalvey as their clerk for the ensuing year Mr. B. J. Sessions will move from the place he now occupies to theeottage near Main Street, in rear of Spivey Mercantile Co. Mrs. Thompson, who was to have gone to Wampee last week was detained by the sickness of her son, I Mr. A. C. Thompson. Mr S. A. WiiHutn Pool Nixon, was born on the itrd (.lay of January, 1KU, and died the-1th day of May 1001, aged (57 years, f? mouths and one day. Mr. Nixon was a kind husband and father, brother and son, ever ready to help those in need, or to eoutrih ate liberally to all elmritable purposes. He leaves a wife, two sons, two daughters two sisters and a ' host of friends to tnourn his loss. At the breaking out of the civil war Mr. Nixon joined what was known as Tucker's Cavalry at Georgetown and did service on the coast of Georgetown younty until the Spring of ISdl when hi* command was ordered to Virginia. About the 10th of May they arrived at Richmond and were attached to the 7th Regiment, Gen. Mart Gary's brigade. Soon after, lie was detailed on the force of scouts In which he rendered very valuable service until the surrender of Lee. lie (am ? lone, settled down and went, to farming which he followed to the time of his death. lie was taken sick about last Pull, iinully his mind became so impaireo that his friends thought best to send him to the State Hospital lor treatment where lie died as above stated . As a friend and neighbor ho will be sadly missed in his community, as a soldier lie was second to none. The sympathy of the entire community goes out in behalf of bis bereaved family. Marlow and Melton MoLin, both of whom have served us so faithfully as deacons since the organization of Collins Creek baptist church.
