Horry Boy gets $7,500.
On last Friday the Columbia State
contained the following news item:
''Tho supreme court yesterday
tiled u decision by which George W.
Watts gets $7,500, damages from the
South Boui.d Railroad, or the Seaboard
Air Line. Mr. Watts was
represented by Mr. 1'. 11. Nelson
and Mr. (i. JJuncau neilinger.
Watts was a guard at the penitentiary.
He fell into a cut on the line
of the South Hound, or Seaboard, in
this city, and had is back severely
hurt. However, there was testimony
to the e.(Te it that lie had had spinal
trouble since he was 10 years
old. Suit for $10,000 damages was
brought and a verdict for $7,500 secured,
The case was th?n taken to
the supreme court with the result as
above stated."
Watts was reared in this county a
few miles from Con way and is now
living with his father's family near
| Socastee. The people are quite familiar
with the story of how he was
injured in the railroad cut, his suit
for damages and the trial of the case
in Barnwell county. He lay between
life and death for a long time
after the accident, has not yet HnalI
ly recovered, and is probably in!
iured for life It was doubtless
! good news to him and his family, but
no sum of money can repay him for
the lose of his health.
