Till'average Horry jury can bo
rolicd upon to do its duty toward '
the enforcement of law. Our juries i
have gained a reputation possessed
by few. If the State makes out its 1

Of it farmers are busy now all over
the county preparing their lands
for.this year's erop. Never did a
year have a brighter future for the
people generally. Hot urn to prosperity
goes a long way toward lightening
the farmer's hard tasks, lie

A report of the Town Hoard of
Health to the Town Council some
time ago contained soino interesting
facts and gave advice about certain
matters whir ' we think the council
would do veil to heed. Attention
was spec'. ily called to the low

the health of our ei'/uens, we have
not the least doubt. The reeom
mendations of tho board should bo
carried out and no pains spared un
til not only this, but every sink holo
in the town is drained perfectly dry.
No town can build, so long us its
citizens who have the capital, peisist
in keeping their means and refuse
to invest them. One man can do but
little bv himself towards starting
and maintaining new industries and
enterprise?, it takes the union of all
the citizens, the whole body politic,
to get things on a hum.
Not so long ago the business men
of our town and vicinity united together
on a certain thing and as a
result we have our tobacco warehouses.
and an industry throughout
the county which has already been
of great benefit to our farmers. The
mutual efforts of all resulted in mutual
benefit to till. In the same way
our business men might join together
and build cotton factories, or
bring to the the town and county
any oilier enterprise which is
thought likely to succeed. Do we
want to see such things taking place?
If we really wanted such things, it
does seem that more efforts would
be made to bring tlieni about. It is
pretty certain that if we are already
contented and satislied with things
as they are, we have not the energy
to strive after further attainments

Rnlly to the Exposition.
At a recent meeting of the Horry
Commissioners of the Charleston
Exposition, it was resolved to rurtlier
organize the county by appointing
three representative and progressive
citizens from each township
to act with the Central Hoard in
working up a sentiment in i it ores t
of the Exposition.
This Exposition is to by held in
the interest of South Carolina and
for the benefit o. the whole country,
and Horry County can't afford not

bo made. Our county is surpaised
by few in lior natural resources and
is rapidly coining to the front as one
, of the best counties of the Stuto.
This Southern Exposition will give
us ample opportunity to show to
the outside world what can bv done
t on Horry soil, and with llorry brain
and brawn. Let us not miss this
opportunity. Let overy enterprising
man and woman resolve to assist
in making an llorry exhibit
, both creditable and profitable to our
county.
With a view to a more thorough
organization and for general dismission,
a mass-meeting is hereby called
to meet at the Court House in
Conway, on Monday. April 1st at
12 o'clock noon.
All the township commissi mors,
, ,is well as all parties interested, are
I urged to be presont.
