Tobacco Notes.
Mr. I)- I). Ilarrelson is building a
nice tobacco barn and will make a
crop of tobacco tltis year
Mr. II. C. Tuton who has charge
of '"Snow Mill" the line farm of
Mrs. Burroughs will plant a large
tobaceo crop.
There are, up to date 51 new barns
reported to the Horry Ware house
as being built in the eounly. You
can't, keep industrious anil sensible
people out of a good thing.
The letter in last week's IIkhai.d
j from .1. J. K. Ilarrelson was sensible
and to the point.
The weather has been very favorable
for buy ing and sowing tobacoo
plant beds and many of the rariners
have taken advantage of it.
Many farmers will be tickled at
thi? prices of tobacco this fall. We
predict that 2a to lb cents per lb.
will be no rare price.
Mr. N. 13. Allsbrook got sood
from the Horry Ware house this
weak for a thirty acre tobacco crop.
It is a stango freak of human nature
that is hard to understand how
some men with ability and means
will stand aside and sec another reap
a harvest o'" prosperity That they
themselves eould eat her if they only
would wake up an make an effort.
It is as easy for all to profit by the
groat tobacco industry that has
come so lately in to I lorry as it has
for the few who are making money
out of it, yet a great many of our
farmers are holding back as if they
feared prospsritv would strike them
as some mighty evil.
At the Charleston PIxposition the
tobacco industry should be inside to
do credit to llorry county. Capt-.
J. 10. Coles of the llorry Warehouse
tells us that from his ssiles this year
he is confident that ho can j>u chase
tobacco that will lie equal to any
sold in South Carolina for he intends
to have an exhibit of the county's
product there.
Every young man in llorry eount"
should raise a tobacco crop this
pear. Why? Because tobacco is a
crop that requires attention and
study and it will do more to cause
a man to be interested and ae tive in
farming than any crop he can raise.
It will do more to bring young men
into the masts of trade and throw
them with more- men?business men;
than any other crop raised, giving
them the opportunity to learn the
ways of trade and business, besides
all this it will bring them money,

better life, that is if it is properly
used. There are few who have the
energy and judgment to make nion
ev 1 hat don t know how to use it.
Think of this young men before you
grow old watching others grow rich.
A gentleman in the Cool Spring
section informs us that year before
last he planted four acres of tobacco
and sold worth of tobacco raised
thereon Last year (1900) he
planted the same four acres in cotton
and sold the cotton raised thereon
for less than $50. Tobacco is King!

The Tablet of Life.
Scientific Discovery of the Acre!
agic Key to the Mystery of Life
from times immemorial it lias
been man's predominating ambition
to prolong Life. Hut among the
many brilliant minds, who have de
voted their lives to the fascinating
subject, it was left for the immortal
Darwin to give to the world, in his
j great theory of Life, the fundamental
principle upon which to build all
further research in this direction
, following closely in his footsteps
came I'rof. Dr. Ludwig Hueehner, a
Herman scientist of international renown,
with his remarkable work
entitled "Das Huch des Langcn Lobens''(the
book on Longevity). Hut
alas, like Darwin he too died, ere he
could reap the fruit of his wonder
fill doctrine. Others however, equal
ly great took up the interrupted
thread with the result that two famous

ofexperiinents and research, have at
