Uavk you thou/ghl seriously of

oration and in a secondary way it
means the enhancement of the value
of your property. Then think of the
proposition made by the town council
to drain Laurel Street, provided
the citizens who own lots on this
street will drain their property.
Is the county to have a larger
court house? This question was up
a short white ago, but for sometime
we have heard nothing of it. We
certainly need a larger court house.
Our courts arc very instructive to
the people who attend, and the house
should be large enough to hold the
crowds who invariably wish to be
present. We do not believe the
county is too poor to have a larger
court house. We would be glad for
t)ie authorities to got together and
settle the question as to whether
any step is tobe taken toward either
building a new court house or enlarging
the one we already have. For
many reasons this needed improvement
may not be made in the near
future, but ne\? thcless, we want
the question up; I settled.
One thing that tlm people of Horry
county should nut forget, is the
fact that it is highly important to
the best interests of the county to
have at the exposition next year an
exhibit which will show the progress
of the county in tobacco culture.
Just a few years ago and the people
were ignorant of the adaptability of
our soil to the culture of tobacco.
Tobacco was grown in a small section
of the county only. Now that
we have found out that the soil of
Horry, in almost any section you
may name, is capable of producing
fi#e, bright leaf, we shodld advertise
it in every possible way to the outside
world. There's no cheaper way
to advertise than to get up an exhibit
for the exposition at Charleston
next year.
13efork our next issue is printed a
new year win nave begun its course
in the history of our lives. We
leave with regret the year that is
about to come to a close and feel
profoundly thankful for the prosperity,
and its attendant blessings,
which has marked it. The year has
brought many improvements to Conway
and all over the Independent
Republic can be seen many new
signs of industrial improvement and
progress in business enterprise.
The people generally are in hotter
.financial condition than at this time
last year.
Under such favorable conditions
wo should enter upon the new year
with plenty of good cheer. Let us
begin the new year in the right
way, determined to make the new
year better than the one about to
close. Hotter, because of more
regular and better ways of living.
Better, because of more earnest efforts
Do accomplish something when
opportunity ofTers. Hotter in every
way that wo can make it.
