Burn and Stables Burned.
On Tuesday nijjht of last week the
barn and stables of J. \\\ Holliday,
i f Galivants Ferry was burned down
in roe horses and one mule being
burnt, also lot of harness, corn, foil
dor, hay and oats; loss about $1.01)0.
Mr. Doyle discovered the lire about

Confidence in Conway's Future.
Conway, as a place of residence
and business, was not much better
than adjacent towns a few years
ago; but now it is observable that a
great deal more of our prosperity is
going toward improving the town,
not merely enriching individuals,
than that of any of the small towns
near Our people have implicit
confidence in the future of Conway
land think it is much safer to put
their money in town property and
improvents than in anything else.
What, a Park? Yes.
Mr. Editor:?Can't we find a site
for a park in town? Now is just the
time. 1 know very well we wouldn I
be able to lix it up in a year or two
maybe; for there's lots of work to bo
done on tin' streets and for the sani
tation of the town lirst. Hut we
mi<_i.lit find a place now that would
be built up or otherwise used later.
There is more than one good place.
Maybe some philanthropic citizen,
or two or three of them together,
would be willing to make a conditional
grant of some good place either
to the town direct for this specific
use, or to trustees for such a use.
You don't think 1 am trying logo
too fast, do yen? When they are
mixed in the right proportion, it is
not too much to stand for both.

the presidency of its founder, Uev.
Dr. Jacobs, is an institution for the
education and technical training of
orphan boys and girls. It is located
in Clinton, South Carolina. Nine
handsome stone cottages house the
children. In addition there arc
school buildings, general dining hull,
Industrial and Technical schools, library
and shops. A farm of an hundred
acres gives the boys opportuni
ty for learning that business.
These orphans represent fifteen
different States, (every Southern
State) and their parentage was of
eleven different oenoininations <*f
Christians. They are received at
the tender age of six, and after being
taught to take care of themselves
go out to lucrative situations.
The cost of support :s comparatively
small. Five dollars will board,
clothe and school a boy or girl for
a month. This could not be done,
were it not that the young people
are a busy set and practice self-help.
The money that cares for them is
that which each benevolent individ
ual gives, as moved by his own heart,
or the Father of all. There is not a
State in the Union that does not
contribute. No one compels. No
one is responsible for their support.
Often, there is but a day's supply
ahead; but never, in the 25 years of
itsoxistenco, has there been want.
He that says: '"1 am the Father of
the fatherless," seems to have a hand
in this. And what of you?

Died on the 7th inst. Mr. Patrick
E. Lewis in the -If)th year of his age.
He joined tVie Methodist church and
professed to know the blessed Savior
in his early manhood and lived
a devoted christian till the day of
his death. He was happily married
in January 1880 to Miss Lorcna Tyler.
lie was a kind husband, an affectionate
father and a friend to all
that knew him.
lie leaves a devoted wife, seven
children and a host of friends and
relatives to mourn his loss.

School and was a consistent
member, and led many souls to
Christ. He will be missed in his
church and community. Rev. M. M.
Merritt conducted tin; funeral services
at Floyds church on the following
day, his remains wore taken to
the family burial ground, and there
with Masonic honors his body was
laid away to await the resurection
morn. May God bless t he widowed
mother, and may His richest bless
ings rest upon the desolate home
and strengthen the bereaved mother
to rear up the little ones in His care,
and may each one of them meet him
in Heaven.
