They arc a distinct race of
creatures. No human being can ever

"I want to be an angel," will never
have her wish gratified. They are superhuman,
but they aro of different grades
and ranks, not all on tho same level or
the namo height. They have their superiors
and inferiors and equals. 1

and divided angels into supercelestia!.
celestial and subcelestial. Dionysius,
tho Areopagite, I guessed and divided
them into thrco classes; the supreme,
tho middlo and the- last, and-'cach of
these into three other classes, making
nino in all. Philo said that angels
were related to God, as the rays to the
sun. Fnlgentius said that they were
composed of body and spirit. Clement
said that they were incorporeal. Augustino
said that they had been in danger
of falling, but now are beyond being
tempted. Hut the only authority

they are never tired. At God's command

There is only one thing that puts
them to their wits' end, and the Hiblc
says they have to study that. They
< have been studying it all through the
ages, and yet I warrant they have not
fully gra-ped it?the wonders of redemption.

The apostle says, "Which things the
angels desire to look into." That is a

strains their faculties to the utmost.
That is higher than they can climb,
deeper than they can drive. They have
a desire for something too big for their
comprehension. 'Which things the
angols desire to look into." Hut that
does not discredit their intelligence.
No one but God himsolf can fully understand
the wonders of redemption.
If all heaven should study it for 50
ocnturies, thoy would get no furthor
than the A 13 C of that inexhaustiblo
subject. Hut nearly all other realms
of knowledge they have ransacked and
explored and compassed. No one but
God oan tell them anything they do
net knew. They have read to the last
word of tho line of tho last pago of the
last volume of investigation and what
delights me most is that all their intelligence
is to bo at our disposal, and.
coming into their presence, they will
tell us in rive minutes more than we
can learn by 100 years of earthly surmising.
A further characteristic of these im
mortals is their velooity. This the
Bible puts sometimes under the figure
of wings, sometimes under tho tiguro
of a (lowing garment, sometimes under
tho figure of naked foot. As theso
supcrhumans are without bodies, these
expressions are of oouiso figurative and
moan swiftness. Tho Biblo tolls us
that Daniel was praying and Gabriel
flew from heaven and touched him before
lie got up from his kneos. How
far, then, did the angel Gabriel have to
fly in those moments of Daniol's prayer?
Heaven is thought to be tho center

angel that encouraged Paul in the
Mediterranean shipwreck. It was an

was an angel that stirred tho pool of
Siloam, where tho sick was healed. It
was an angel that John saw Hying
through the midst of heaven, and an angel
with foot planted on tho sea, and
an angel that opened tho book, and an

angel that poured out tho vials, and an

Oh, the numbers and the might

Men and women of all circumstances,
only partly appreciated or not apprcoi

Thank God that those who arc for us
are mightier than those who arc against
us! And that thought makes me jubilant
as to the final triumph. Belgium,
you know, was the battleground of England
and Franco. Yen, Belgium more
than once was the battleground of opposing
nations. It so happens that
this world is the Belgium or battleground
between the angelic nations,
good and bad. Michael, tho commander
in chief on one side; Luoifor, as
Byron calls him, nr.Mcphistophcios, as
Goethe calls him, or satan, as the Bible
calls him, the commander in chief on
the other side. All pure angelhood under
tho one leadership and all abandoned
angelhood under tho other leadership.
Many a skirmish have tho two armios
had, but the great and decisive battle
is yet to be fought. Either from our
earthly homes or down from our supernal
residences may wo como in on the
right silc, for on that side aro God and
heaven and victory. Meanwhile tho
battle is being set in array, and the
forces cclcstial-and demoniacal aro confronting

The comptroller general hasreceived
from all the counties save Barnwell and
Spartanburg the statements of tho
county superintendents of schools as to
the amount each county needs from
the dispensary profits to make up tho
constitutional $3 per capita. Upon this
