Conway S. S. Railroad.
Last week the Manager of this
paper, with Messrs. R. G. Collins,
I). A Spivey, and It. 15. Soarbori
ough, was given a trip over the
Con wit v Sea-shore IbiilnvwV
the Wwonmaw at what is called the
liruton place and extending down to
within a short distance of burroughs

very much surprised, to find the roadbed
in such admirable condition).
Leaving the River there arc t wo or 1
three curves and two considerable!
1 grades before reach big level land,'
but then for a distance of seven miles1,
the road is as straight as an arrow '

completed will be one of the finest1'
roadbeds in South Carolina. >1
Great credit is due Mr. F. N. Mar 1

? ?? am '? Tobacco
Notes.
The fact has been demonstrated to
the satisfaction of both buyers and
sellers that Conway is the place for
a great tobacco market. As has
been said before, the success of the.
ii or i.-..
iiuir.y u(himiuum: iias ueen remarkable
considering it the first year of
its existence, and handling tobacco,
consisting prinoipalyjof the first crops
grown by the farmers of the county..
Taking the facty in consideration,
that tin? buyers have learned tee
quality of Horry tobacco. The mani
agement of the Warehouse has become
acquainted with our farmers*
. The farmers having had one years
experience in growing, grading and
marketing a crop, greater work can
bo done all around another year.
Planters should market their toboeco
as soon now as possible, as the
cohl weather which will soon be
upon us. will injure it very much in
the hendliny.
Those who contemplate building
new barns for tobacco, should jjet at
it as soon as their present crops are
safely stored away, (let the poles
and slabs ready, hand them up at idle
times, and it will be found that the
building of a tobacco barn is no
#reat job and the expense will be
mere nothing if the work is begun in
time.
We noticed that there was a morni
ig and evening sale on Wednesday
oflasl week.
We want to see every farmer in
I lorry county planting tobacco next
year, for we truly believe that by so
doing, they will all get out from under
the opnression of debt which
keeps down half the farmers of the
South.
We shall endeavor through the colums
of this paper to give to our patrons
from time to time the best advice
on tobacco and tobacco growing
that we can possibly obtain. Wo
shall mak(i t a point to consult with
men of experience and study up on
tobacco in all of its brandies as
much as we can.
It. will not do for planters who intend
to plant tobacco another year
to put olT preparing for it for soon
will come the time to prepare your
plant beds. It. would be a good
idea to select the place for beds now,
and be getting the wood there for
burning the ground.

I enjoyed the hospitalit y of Messrs. jt
Thomas Lundv, Joseph Sanders and
the Messrs. McLin, and if they are S
representative cit izens of Horry it is
the garden spot of South Carolina.
This section of the State has been in
convenienecd by a lack of railroad g
f aci lilies, but we have every reason
to believe that Horry will in the (
near future have-dhese advantages.
This county has been isolated by
reason or these of this lack of eo e.munication
with other sections of ^
the State, but its excellent farming '
lands, its timber interest and its
natural wealth will induce railroads, ,|
and when these are built Horry will
then occupy the place that her inher
cut. advantages entitle her to.
While passing through the county
I attended a meeting at Cedar
