It is hoped that t Tvidfth Con
sus, at least in so h . as it relates to
the South, will ho ; full and accur- '

South is certainly growing? in population;
she is intensifying as well as
broadening in her work alonj* old
lines; she is bearing old burdens,
social, political, and industrial, with
a sturdier str?n^ht; she is developing
new industries; she is beino better
understood of the world. And
whatever will help this jjood work !
to on will be for us a blessing.
We want the Twelfth Census, so
far as it may be able to do so. to toll ,
us accurately how far we have #0110, I
what our relative and comparative
dovclopenient has been. We want ;
to be able absolutely to depend upon j
its findings; therefore, we don't want
any Kepublicun politics nor any Do
hick ratio politics in it. To a greater
extent than it. was thought possible, i'
partisanship, at least, has been eli-jininated
from the organization of 1
this great tabulating machine. And
from what we can learn of the powers
that are in control of the setting
up of it, we are glad to say it may bo j
believed t hat, if the people, the ap-j
piicants for jobs, do not force poli
ties into the Census work, there will
still be little or no polities in it.
In commendation "of the people of;
Horry, it may be said that they lutve
filed more applications possible for
the positions of enumerator of the
Census than the people of any other i
county in the Sixth Census District.
If as we suppose, this is caused by
the anxiety of our people for a full
and accurate enumeration in Horry,
by an interest in our county's showing
up for what'it is before the
world, then there will certainly be
no complaining and sulking among
the unsuccessful candidates for ar. i
