This govornmcnt lias uniformed a battalion of Puerto liicans and tliev seem to be proud of serving under the United States Hag. A wAititANT for Colonel Neal has been sworn out and lias likely been served by this time. The criminal charge is. "that lie failed to turn over to his successor money in his charge thirty days after retiring from office. The Kentucky political feud becomes more aggravated daily. The opposition will use every effort to defeat Gocbel's election, they are strong and are bringing several side issues into the campaign. There are giants on each side arrayed one against the other and it will take the election to determine the result. The charge that Bryan failed to vote for an ex-confederate for Speaker has fallen through, and like many other charges that are being made will fail to benefit the inventors, and serve to strengthen and increase the popularity of the Nebraska 11. Death is the only thing that will prevent his nomination and a continuation of the Philippine war will make him President. "It seems almost incredible that in the neighborhood of $40,000 in actual cash should h ve been confided to letters during f last year, and harder still to credit that the most exhaustive efforts I'.dl d to find the ownersofone-fourth< t amount, writes Patti Lyle Col.ins in The Ladies' Home Journal for September. "The envelopes which arc addressed are kept on file for four years, blank ones not so long, but in cither case a liberal margin of time is allowed for claimants to appear before the money is finally turned into the Treasury to the credit of the Post-Office Do jjui uulmiv, iu auumon to the money contained in letters during the me period, something like $10,(100 sas found loose in the mails. It is officially styled 'loose money.'" A'Mother Tells How She Saved Her Kittle Daughter's Life. 1 am the mother of eight children and have had a great deal of experience with medicines. Last summer my little daughter had the dysentery in its worst form. We thought she would die. I tried everything I o> hi think of, but nothing seemed i*> do her any good. I saw by an advertisement in our paper that Chamberlain's Colie, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy was highly recommended and sent and got a bottle at once. It proved to be one of the very best medicines we ever had in the house. It saved my littledaughter's life. J am anxious for every mother to know what an excellent medicine it is. Had 1 known it at first it would have saved me a great deal of anxiety and my little daughter much suffering.?Yours truly, Mas. F. Uurdick, Liberty, R. I. For sale by Dr. 1C. Thompson, of this place left Friday to the regret of her many friends. She will stop a few days with her brother, Mr. A, C.Thompson, of Conway, S. C. From there she will go to Maxton to enter school. 6. 7. 8. v !*ttt "Jo*'* I r . . ?. fv- ' " His Life Was Saved. Mr. J. E. Lilly, a prominent citi/on of Hannibal, Mo.. lately had u wonderful deliverance from a frightful death, in telling of it he says: "1 was taken with typhoid Fever, that ran into Pneumonia. My lunjfs became hardened. I was so weak I couldn't even sit up in bed. Nothing helped me. 1 expected to soon die of Consumption, when 1 heard of Dr. Kind's New Discovery. One hot tle oave oreat relief. I continued to use it. and now am well and strone 1 can't say too much in its praise." This marvellous medicine is the sur est and quickest cure in the world for all Throat and L.?no Trouble. Regular sizes 5(1 cents and $1.00 Trial bottles free at Dr. E. Norton's I >rue Store: every hot t lo^uaranteed. Tobacco Notes. Our buyers want over a.000.0(KI pounds of tobaeeo this season, Mr. Uenr.v N Drown.of llillsboro. N. C., arrived in Conway this week and will join the already strong corps of buyers on this market. The tobacco market seemed to be stronger on all grades of bright leaf last week. Dright scraps decidedly better, and on good grades there was a general upward tendencv. A Danville drummer was here last j week and he did not fail to conipli-' meat our tobacco market, saying amon^ other things, ''I have visited a good many markets in South Carolina. but you have the best I have] visited yet." We notice a sale on the Warehouse floor that we know did the heart of the planter good last week. It was a nice pile of tobaeeo and was bid off at the price oT -7A cents per pound. Many other lots were taken during the week at good prices. There were good breaks each day at the Tobaeeo Warehouse last week, and they are holding up thus far for this week. Although the weather is heavy and damp. The people of the county are liberally patronizing the I lorry Warehouse. It is to their interest to do so, for reports from all; over this State and Eastern North Carolina, give Conway the credit of having one of the best markets in the State. There area great many tobacco drummers now canvassing the conn ty, as many sis half a do/in dining sit the same house in one day. They should pay for their keep. Among other things, by making fair promi ses they have created a spirit of unrest and dissatisfaction among the planters all over the count ry. If the farmers would note carefully what we printed from the pen of one of the greatest tobacco drummers that ever struck the road (Mr. Ed. M. Pace) it would do them good. Make the boys pay for accommodations, then you want be out anything by listening to their chin music. IV! T X ? ^ ? ? no Ktgrti 10 ugliness. The woman who is lovely in fare, form and temper will always have friends, but one who would be attractive must keep her health. If she is weak, sickly and all run down, she will be nervous and irritable. If she has constipation or kidney trouble. her impure blood will cause pimples, blotches, skin eruptions and a wretched complexion. Kleetric Hitters is the nest medicine in the world to regulate stomach, liver and kidneys and to purify the blood. It gives strong nerves, bright, eyes, smooth, velvety skin, rich complex ion. It will make a good-looking, charming woman of a run down invalid. Only 50 cents at l)r, K. Norton's Drugstore. - ? - The subject of trusts, which has become the. uppermost topic of discussion in the nation at the present time, is ably discussed in the September issue of the Review of Reviews by lion. George IS. Roberts, the director of the mint, who explains that by the law of economies it is impossible for gigantiecombina tions of capital pennant ly to control prices. Henry Macfarland, the \\'.. i * . j >\ asuingion correspondent of tbi* boston Herald, oilers in the same magazine a valuable suggestion as to how the trust issue may be eliminated from the Presidential campaign. He urges the Republican party to advocate an amendment to the Con stitution which will give Congress the necessary authority to deal with the regulation of trusts, which can only be reached at the present time by State Legislatures. The Most Reliable Worm Destroyer In Use. Messrs I, M. & R. F. Powell, prominent merchants in Columbus county, N. C. wrote us in July 1K87, that "Rev. Mr. T. C.
