difficulties. The insurgents have
continued battling for possession of
the islands and have recently succeeded
in capturing lloilo and raising
their flag over that city. Wh le
the Peace Commission were treating
regardingjtho islands, the insurgents
were unrelaxing 11 their efforts and
now we find ourselves confronting a
problem which will tax the bruins
and statesmanship of this country.
Are we to compel their submission
which will involve much money and
a great sacrifice of life. or. let this
people establish their own form of
government. The control of those
islands will be a dear possession in
more ways than one -dear, in what
they will cost to maintain our au.

Instructions For Preparing !
Plant Beds and Sowing

In deciding to enter tobacco in the <
! list of his crops, the planter should j
I become cognizant of a few facts which ;

First and foremost, the planter's i
I watch word should be "Care." <
Care in securing seed, in selecting- ]
[land, in planting, worming, suck
lcring, priming and curing. Kach
operation must be carried out at the

work. Tobacco does not need so
much more than other crops, but
the difference of a day may mean the
difference between profit and loss.
After he has decided to plant, the
next thing is the seed.
IM.ANT1NU.
The first important move in planting
tobacco is the selection of a plant
-bed.
Pick out a low warm place not
subject to overflow, and with a good
amount of moisture. Make your bed
at the rate of one hundred square
yards for each four acres of tobacco
you wish to plant.
Ditch well around the bed.
Burn the bed thoroughly after;
| which rake it clean of all trash.
