Mr. A. Hrunner about sixty years
of age, died hero of peritonitis last
Friday. He was of Herman descent
ami had been in tins country since n,
very young man, having served in
the United States Army for a term
of years, he had travelled extensively
over this country, lie eunto to llor-.
ry several years airo and engaged in
buying hides and fur and was well
known over the county, lie was of
a genial happy temperament with a
^nuck of imparting it to others.
In our'Jast issue we noted that
Mr. 11. H. llamaker died hero on

demise. Standing at his open grave,
as the minister read from the impressive
burial service; "Earth to
earth, dust to dust, and ashes to ashes,"
we said to ourself; those words

The deceased was an humble man,

pageant followed him to the grave;
no Hags were placed at. half mast;
and yet as ho lay "calm in all the

that city Monday night of last week.'

good people of Crescent (or Green
Sea)? 1 have traveled extensively 1
but have neviT found a country that
1 liked better.
The people are the most indepen*
dent that 1 have ever seen, and make j
their own hog and hominy. Cres* I
cent is a nice, high country, and is
famous for its good water. Its soil
is particularly adapted to the culture
of com, cotton, potatoes and tobacco,
which arc raised extensively. The
people would realize more money
from their tobacco, if they would
build a ware-house.
Orescent is bounded on every side
by pretty girls, and I am of theopinion
that wedding bells will chime in
this community at an early date.
We are glad to report that Mr.
Leo Graham is able to. commence
work again.
Senator Tillman seems to stand
very high with some of our people,
so much so, that some name their
children for him. The latest, however,
comes from a school near here.
Oim little fellow was asked who discovered
America; and meekly answered,
"Tillman.

We plant sorghum about the first

apart and work it as we work corn

think from 1 <1 to 2 bushels per acre

the heads are ripe, or until just hefore
frost, though alight frost won't
hurt it much. We then haul it up

After your stock becomes used to it
you can feed it as you do hay. Wo

it with a wheel or oat hinder. Hv
planting it thick the stalks grow
small and stock like it better.
I think after a man cuts his oats
in June, if he will sow cane on his
oat land lie would make fine cane,
| about two tons per acre. In 1.895,
on four acres, I raised enough cane
I to feed-two cows and calves, three
horses and fatten two hogs. When
the cane is out the first time, its the
succors from the stubbles that make
the second crop. When you get
ready to cut your cane let mo know

at their recent meeting decided to
continue the work of holding farmers 1
institutes. Arrangements have already
been made to hold institutes J

These institutes will be held with"
out cost to the community. Members
of the college faculty, who are
experts in the various lines of agri
culture, chemistry, horticulture,
dairying and veterinary science will
bo present.
Kverv county in the State has the
right to at least one institute. In
order that arrangements may be
made to cover as much ground as
possible with the least expense to the
college, parties wishing institutes
held in their community should address
at an early date.
