Postmaster-general Wilson has
been well taken care of. lie has

favorable candidate to the Spanish
government on account of the stand
which he has taken in favor of Spain
in her war with Cuba.
The Vesuvius ran the blockade
successfully a few nights ago, demonstrating
the impracticability of ef
fectnally blockading the port of
Charleston, as no government could
keep such a number of war ehip3 at
any one point long at a time. During
the late war our people had little
trouble in going out and coming
in to this port and the Vesuvius last
Friday night under cover of a heavy
fog and with smothered .lights glided
as qui.tly through this blockade, as
though they had been hundreds of
miles away. There aro doubtless
now living, and no doubt in Charleston,
old tars who would delight in

Mr. Cleveland has made the trip
from the white house to the capitol
on inaugural occasions as often as
any president has or will, though
some imaginations have predicted
that he will be called out four years
hence to reorganize the Democratic
party. Not likely. The democratic
party has suffered defeat of late,
mainly on account of the PalmcrJJuckner
bolt, but is in good fighting
condition now and will grow in pow
er ere another campaign. The vine
will flourish the better for the pruning.
The fact is plainly establish
cd that the party has a standard
bearer, who is not dismayed by temporary
defeat and who will he ready
for the time when it comes. General
Grant could not receive a third
term nomination av,d no man will,
as the people oppose it. Mr. Cleveland
is no doubt content to retire
with bis family to Princeton, relieved
of tho public burden he has borne
so many years. The old saw, "unea
ay lies the head that wears a crown,"
will apply also to our republican form
of government, and the congratula I
tions should rather ho^g it en to the'

that: "Not one church in South
Carolina out of six has any systematic
plan for giving to missions."
Brethren, this ought not so to be;
we should remember the Lord with
our substance. Now 1 believe, that
if every Baptist in Ilorry will give at
least five cents, it will count up large
ly. [ Few churches are composed of
less than fifty members. There are
fifty white Baptist churches in llorry,
suppose they will average fifty members
each, see what it will amount
to at five cents per member. At five i
cents each it will look tolerably large,
ami there are many who con give
more. I know that I lorry can do
this.
Brethren, it is in the name of
Christ that I make this request. Remember,
"The spirit of man is the
candle of the Lord." I'rov. 20:27.
Oh, brethren! Let the candle
shine.

reports that he finds business better
at present than it has been for a
long while, says a Chester County
(Penna) exchange. A few mornings
ago he had an order for twenty two]
specimens, and that same < veiling lu

pigs were shipped to New England,
where the flavor of the Boston bean
is said to be greatly improved if a
tender juicy slice of Chester White
