of peace and good will. Avoiding
the pitfalls of his predecessors,
and we believe that it is his intention

Our State and National legislations j
have changed their completion and

some degrees in the hands of new 1
men. Last Monday witnessed the '
retirement of Governor Evans to pri 1
vate life and the inauguration of {
(ion. Ellerbe as chief executive of 1
the State. Only a few days remain 1
when Senator Irby will cast his man '
tie aside to be worn by his successor 1
Judge Eurle, A few short years
since Mr. Irby was one of the most 1
powerful factors in State politics and 1
Governor Evans in high favor with
his party, but times and men chancre :

and the change is indicative of good
and our people are hopeful of better
titnos. Angry passions have subsided,
reason is asserting itself and
ser.sible men are learning to look at
things from a sensible standpoint.
