The Supervisor refuses to receive the Simpson C.'roek Bridge, from the fact that it is not up to contract. Mr. S. M. Toinpkius, lately with Mr. W. It. Lewis accepts a position with the Burroughs & Collins Company. Mr/J. 11. .Marsh left for Augusta Saturday to take a courso of instruction in ths Osbourno Business College. Prof. I. T. The Knights of-Honor have elected j their officers for the present year and will install them next Monday night. All mem- i bersaro requested to attend. Mr. A. Brunner, of this county who has j lately undergone a surgical operation is resting very well here at Mr. Patrick's, and wo hope may soon bo well. S. T. Skssions lias just received a large \ and well selected stock of Ladies, Misses, Gents,.Boys and Children's Shoes at prices to suit the times. Call and see them. Mr. M. A. Westmoreland, of Hammond, this county, found a pocket book recently, containing money, etc. The person describing contents can receive the package. The Knights of Pythias expect to have a very interesting meeting to night. Besides their annual installation of officers they propose to have "something else." It is expected that every member will bo present. Capt. Zack Dusenbury for the past ten years in the employ of the Waccamaw Line, voluntarily retires from steam boating and will return to Pot Bluff, his home and devote his attention to farming. The Burroughs & Collins Company havo lately made extensive improvements at the Gully Store. Mr. Charles Duscnbury, of Port ilnrrelsoti places on our table a sample of oxlra homo made syrup. Mr. Dusenbury is anxious to know how to prevent flic accuinuliftlon of sugar in syrup, something he says that lie has not yet learned. Perhaps you can tell him. .Capt. 15. F. Fulton, of I5lnck Mingo, for some time commanding the ''Two Brothers," plying between Black vijtbr and Georgetown, arrived here Tuesday and accepts a position ' on the Waco a maw Line of Steamers and takes charge of the steamer Maggie. The Stale newspaper offers a premium, a fine gold watch and chain, to the mott popular member )f tho General Assembly. Tho voting is to be done bv cbunons taken from that newspaper. A collection was taken Monday, for the purpose ot erecting a Memorial bulking' which has been so munificently recommended bv Mr. Itouss, of N. ' 1 ho soldiers meeting hero Inst Monday was mora largely attended than any former meeting, and while this is attributable to the large crowd being here on that day, we hope that each coming meeting may show n larger attendance. Mr. Nathan Adams, u veteran of Lee's army gave some experiences connected with the fateful night on which Jackson fell which was recelvi d with great interest. We urge all old soldiers to take an interest* in this movement, and try and bo present ut the quarterly gatherings. One feature of i great interest was regarding the school | history's to be taught in our schools and re commend* d that our School ('omtnissinner and representatives use their Influence towards securing the best history by a Southern author. Carl, about seven years of age, the son of Mr. E. R. Peaty of Georgetown, died Monday morning of hem , orrnghic fever, having been attacked the Friday previous. The remains reached here on Tuesday's steamer accompanied by Mr. Meaty and his son Julian, who were met at the wharf by numbers of our people, testifying their sympathy for the family who had always lived here up to a recent date and who have the unbounded sympathy of this community in the loss of so bright and promia child. The interment was made at the Presbyteiian cemetery, L)r. NV. S. Stokes reading the burial service. Cool Spring:. Christmas about over. Farmers busy repairing fences and getting ready for planting. Mrs. Charlotte Cannon died h?kIdenly last Saturday morning. Mr. J. E. I>awsey, of LCisscmoe, Ca. after spending the holidays here with his parents left Monday last for home, taking with him about twenty turpentine hands. Mrs. M.J. Graham has just returned from Columbia, where she has been visiting her husband Mr C Graham, in tlie Insane Asylum and says thai ne is improving. Be v. W. C. Glee ton and family, are visiting Mrs. Margaret Dawsey. We agree with kliie Bayboro corres pondent in his criticism of the lien law and Mr. B'g late article and tKyjnk that the law is productive of g?~?d and optiourd with the people whelh er ihey use it or not. But, how about the Fence Law? Would it not be better to repeal it, or, have no fence law? It appears that much harm is being done among the common people by it ns it is. Talk out and say what you think about it. Five Will Conference. Ariel Free-Will Baptist church met with Oak Grove church Oct. 31st, 1890, for the purpose of organ izing an annual conference, with Elder W. D. Norman in the'chair and Iter. A. J. Benson, Secretary. After religious exercise the meeting came co order and the following ministers names were enrolled: W. I). Norman, J: T. Todd, II. V. M. Todd, Z. K Johnson and A. J. Ben son. Delegates from Oak drove and Ariel churches were enrolled. Elder W. D.Norman was elected Mod erator and A. J. Benson, Secretary. An invitation to visiting brethren to scats with us and aid in the business of the conference, was rospovided to by Rev. Random Fowler and brother John Fowler of Little Bethel. The j ') %' ' conference was organized and named the J lorry Frew Will Baptist Conference, Rev. Ransom Fowler preaching the introductoryornion and Rev. \V. I). Norman, preaching at night.
