No nominations wore made on the 25 th. There were many diverse opinions regarding the matter and it was finally decided that no tight would ho made this tune. We take it that this is the best thing, under the circumstances and adapt ourself to the situation. Clan. Fft'ley wr'.es of laic to Mr. A. 1?. Williams, of Gree >villa, v? garding tlie situation and the emergencies that stare us in tbo face. Gen. Failey, though shelved for the present does not leave Irs parly, but counsels inaction on the part of conservative Democrats just i ow. The jVr.KJs and Courier refers to the Convention of tho 17th, as ho Duller Convention. This ought not to bo as we arc of the opinion that the men who met there had no "ono man ' to consider. In fact thoro are n great number of South Carolinians who do not hold with (icn. Butler in his views. If the Convention of the 20th whs not independent in mure, :t surely assumed a laigo amount of independence in adopting all the party plat form* within reach, and occupies the position which it will find conveient to trade with any party, which may have 'ho most tempting plums to offer. Wo jiro not drawing on our imagination wo are simply acting on expressions of the Governor, who has announcod the party's intention, whenever he opportunity arrives. There are a goodly number of South Carolinians who cannot, and w;ll not indorse the King proceedings of la'-e. They are Democrats and they will not support for ollleo inon who stand on two platforms at the same time, believing that ono platform at a time is enough. \V A NT I'll) AT ONCll. We leave Luxor early on the morn ing of March 18th and before noot arrive at the town of Lunch and walk j in?* a short distance, wo descend for ty to fifty feet into the ruins of t half buried temple, the t<?p of tem pie being but little above the leve of the present streets of the town We see some Hue Lotus column; here. This temple was built in ttu \>tole?naie period, so is only uboul as old as tlio Christian AYo, We titul many peddlers of antique copper coins here, at least they were offered as such, but were sold sc cheap they were regarded as spurious imilatioiis. Returning l< our steamer, we ascend the river to I'.d'ou and hero we mount donkeys and pay n visit to one of the best preserved ternpies in Egypt. It was said to have been 180 years in building and wut finished the first century before Christ, from the top of this temple we have a line view of the Nik valley and witness a beautiful sunset. A native village being rig tit by the temple walls, we look right down into the Araffs houses and get a good idea of their filthy manner of living. ! We leave Kdfou early 011 morning of Illth of March and in afternoon lund 1 at the ruins of the old temple of Ko irtombo, situated immediately on the 1 bank of the river, which is very steep at this point and a part of the old U-tuple lias tumbled into the river. We arrive at Assouan, a;; far ??p the river as our steamer goi 3. too lati in 1 1 1 ? t O i'liilMtAAII f A ?. /?/? ti A - . ! ? > in> inikiiiwii iu n u iiiiiiw, ulll wu find a ravenous lot of peddlers ami Li e natives are a more mixed lot in appearance than anv wo huve yet seen. We see many Nubians and liisliareens a> black as jet. Tho lat ter have pleasant features and the most beautiful teeth we ever saw. As tho young Bislup'ecns wear almost a continual smile, their snow white tooth, between their very black bps show off to advantage. Friend Patterson took such a fancy to a remarkably handsome Bishureon boy, that he induced him to promise \o leave his de-art home and go to America, but just before the time for departure, the boy s older brother and father got him out of the way. It is questionablo whether one of these, sons of the desert would ever have become satisfied with civilized surroundings. It would have been like removing a wild animal from the freedom of bis native jungles to the cages of Central Park. Those peop'e appoarcd perfoctly happy, where they were, having little and wanting 1 tie. The peddlers offer for sale, canes, queer looking musical instru ments, crudely made, the war clubs and queer shaped knives and dirks used in this section, heads of various kinds and raw hide whips and they do (juiie a business with our par'y. The boat landing is more than a mile below Assouan rnd four or live below the first cataract. Heforo retiring tho dragoman informs us that tho programme for next day, Sunday, will be to cross tlm r'vor in small bovts and vis't an aur ont ruin before breakfast, and after breakfast we arc to be rowed up '.be r vor to the beautiful Elephantine stand and then visit the town of Assouan, ihence back to the boat and spend the afternoon resting. This pro g .amine was carried out and as we returned through Assouan we found the shops full of curious ware and the "Sabbath" was not very strictly observed by our party, epiite a trade being done in tho purchase of small curiosities. The dragoman always called us to order about, the close of our evening meal to announce the program mo for next day. lie told us this evening that on tomorrow, we were to leu\e the boat early and ride up the river ulx ut e ght miles to a point opposite the famous little Island of Phihe and (hen take ow boats to the Island, visit the splendid ruins of 'ho famous old temple of Phihe and the well preserved small temple known as Pharaoh's bed, lunch there and after lunch take row boats down to the cataract and that those who wished could "shoot the cataract'' in the'r boats, by paying an extra price, and those who did not wish to do this could return on their animals. The dragoman also asks any who would like to make tl>e eight miles ride to notify him then, so camels could be provided and that donkeys would be on hand for those who did not wish to try a camel ride, all those who were well read up in camel riding promptly decided in favor of donkeys. About eight of the party, among them the writer, asked for camels. After dinner, some of the party concluded to try a camel for a short ride first, as there were several around for hire. They kept their experience verv quiet, but we noticed next morning, that of the eight who had deo:ded to take the ride on camels, only two had not changed their order during the night and de u.i :.. i c .1 ? i *ir. uiucu in i#\or 01 uunseys. ne huh pect the other six hud a short experimental ride. The writer and young Lawrence bravely ascended our camels, while the rest of the party gaily and comfortably gal lopped away from us on their easy donkeys. Before going a hundred yards wo found if our "ship of the desert" went out of a walk, we should be shaken fo pieces, that if he walked wo should not only be le.'t far behind, but the motion of the animal would - give us a bad caso of seasickness. Before we had gone 200 yards we yelled lustily to the driver of our camel to stop and let use iinbdowu. but as he had a fee in mind, he pro tested vigorously and kept, the auii mal moving. As the ground was deep sand, we determined not to be nu leupeu for liberty and land" I in tlie sand without any broken holiesAbout half dozen hoys with donkeys inunediately surrounded us, each pleading with us to try hit don1 key. We select the best looking and had not gone exceeding a hundred yards, when down he tumbled und 4 over h?s head we went No bones j broken yet, but we uro prejudiced ugainst stumbling donkeys and we " call another boy. In meantime our puty are quite a distance ahead. Our th?rd mount of the morning proved a splendid little animal and ' 'aside of an hour we were at the head of iho pro m hs'on. We Hud the character of ho country cnt:rcly ' changed. 11 id m uuituu'ous, and the bare mountains are Muck rock, re* I semiring vo!c mic eruptions, and we goo many little black grando islands 1 on tin river.
