the most distressing circuinstan*
ces. lie and Ids daughter, with two
other young ladies were in bathing
in a small pond in front of his house.
He had taken a boat out in the pond
for one of the ladies to dive from.
She dived and swam ashore and while
standing on the shore they >aw Major
Murray Struggling in the water.
The efforts of his daughter and one
of the young ladies to stive him came
near resulting hi ilicirown destruc*
tion. Every effort to restore life was
used to no avail, llo was in the \va
tor about twenty minutes. He was
prominent in tin: politics of the state
and had represented his county for
years in the Legislature in both
houses.
