This session was considered the best we
have yet hud. The songs and speeches
were all good. People who visited U?e
meeting for good enjoyed the day, but
some young fellows tried to make a display
of themselves And falllug to attract
the attention desired, went down to Loria,
where 1 ain told whiskey was being sold,
where nearly a box-car load of inea and
hoys were drinking the vile atufT, a young '
man from Clarendon being the chief fac- i
tor. If we have any law for such conduct
we expect to try and have it enforced. 1
Fathers and mothers pray tor your cJjlJ- i

lluence of wicked men and that you may
Jrnin them up for high and noble purposes.

CHAPTER X.
I.AtT WKKK IN UOMK.
If Home had nothing else to attract travellers,
Its famous pictures ami statuary are
worth a visit across the Atlantic to any one
who can afford It. One of the finest, and
largest and most valuable collections
is that of the Vatican. The Vatican Is not
one building, but a collection of buildings
connected with St. Peters, erected by diff
erent Popes and the value of the collections
In its Museums, picture galleries modern
and ancient, its mosaics. Its halls and galleries
of statuary are beyond estimate. It
is said that the dwellers on the roofs of
buildings connected with St. Peters would
make a good size town. It la prohablo
that the value of the property of St. Petors
and the Vatican is all that has kept the
I'opo from removing from Home sinco
the loss of his temporal power there. Tbo
admission fee is moderate and every day
hundreds If not thousands may be seen
siroinng through the tilth-rent rooms with
catalogue or guide book in liaml ami out)
can easily ilml the most celebrated pictures
or statuary by noticing where the
greatest crowds collect. Hero we see au
unusual statue of Hercules in gilt bronze.
Vonder is the renowned "Apollo Jlelvcdere"
a master piece in marble of ancient
Greek sculpture and near by the famous
"Laocoou" which lias l>ecn culled tho climax
of art, superior to anything else in
statuary or painting. It represents fatlu-r
and two sons in the awful colls of enormous
serpents ami the agony depleted on
the faces cannot be Imagined as expressible
in cold marble, by one who bus not
seen if. Wo see another group admiring
a splendid vase made of beautiful rod porphyry
and it is 46 feet In circumference.
Yonder wo see another crowd admiring an
i mmeuse river god cut out of t)nc marble
and reclining, whilo sixteen small mnrblo
figures are standing on the giant. The
group is called the ''Nile" ami the sixteen
children represent the s|?,tecn cubits at
which tho rise of the famous river begins
to irrigate the fertile land. The greatest
gathering though is id the celebrated fresco
painting of Michael Angefjo, representing
the "Last Judgement" at tho top is
our Favlour with tlio Virgin Mary on his
right, On out* tld? utfintH, patriarchs and
martyrs, below u group of /ingel* sounding
tho last trump aud bearing the books of
judgement. On the right Is represented
the fall of the condemned, some of them
being ferried over tho river Htytc, Ou tho
left tho blossed are ascoiding to heaven
assisted by unguis and saints." A peculiar
feature of the picture is that tho painter
puts on tho portrait of one of his enemies,
representing him in Ik?J1, and another noted
man for whom ho fc)t contempt, ho
places in tho pictures with donkey's eijrs.
On account of tho nudeness of some of
the pictures, tho Pope ordered another attist
to paint drapery over them, but Michael
Angello said''Let the Pope reform the
world and the pictures will reform themselves."
Jlut wo must leavo hundreds of
vu hi able works of art in these splendid
galleries for others to describe, Nearly
every church in Home is to some ??M?nf *
picture gallery. All tho noted palaces of
the rich have their picture galleries and
connected with the Capitol are two splendid
gnlleries of pictures and statuary, so
that one who is fond of art may spend
months pleasantly hero,
Wo visit tho beautiful fountain of Tw*l
that seems to rush out of u maguifteenf
palace, at whose base Is a splendid mom
st? r marble group of Neptune with ids
iloundering steed J n?d Tnrtuus blowing
their horns, those belne In th* mhUt r.f ?
precipice over which the water a* ?s
crystal fnllw m a eemi circular cascade, and
'from ? hundred crovloes on all sides
seven j *ta gush up and streams spout outof
the nostrils of stone wous#xy?. Finally
the water tumbling, sparkliug a?d dash
ing with never censing murmur, pours it
self into a great marble-rimmed reservoir.
They ,say 'f we will drop a coin Into this
fountian and take a drink from It the day
we leave, nothing c.no prevent our visiting
Home again. Unfortunately we had to
take an early train tho day h?ft Home
and did not take tfm e to drive by the famous
fountain and deposit our coin apd
take the parting drink. Wo wander for
hours through the ruins of the palaces of
tho Cioaars on. Palatine Hill, one of the
places where nothing modern has over
been built, though it is a magnificent sjte
for residences, commanding a fair view of
the City as well as the surrounding country.
On tills hill the city was tirst founded.
Here Homulus and Hemus lived.
Around this hill wo see remnants of the
first Hoiuan wall. We are shown rem
mints of the gateway through which the
conquered or captive Habinn women \vofe
brought. Among tho ruins we can still
soe enough of the inner wall paint'og left
to indicate something of the former splendor
of this Palace of the Ciesars, each of
whom added to it and made it more magnificent
than his predecessor. The cruel
Nero had a grand palace on (mother hill,
called, on account of its splendor, the
"goldvu house of Nero." We also wandered
through Its deserted ruins. We visit
Porapey** Theatre and seo tho statue of
Pompey'at whose feet great CffiWT fell,"
arid they show us spots on it that the/ it-! J
us were made by Cwsars Wood. The statue
is eleven feat high and well preserved
though U was hurled fog m#py years under
rule* end when It was excavated tw>u jnen
claimed fct end it was sold for tive hundred
dollars and the money divided. But good
bye Home we must lewe nIf;a touUis of
the sights worth writing of to other pens
to describe, such as the renowned Porthanon,
the beautiful old arches, monuments
to great worrit re, the splendid columns
towering toward fklos. Wo ruw u

following the hearse were empty. People
