George Thompson, colored of,
Charleston, S. C., formerly of this
countv and son of the late Gus
Thompson, died in Charleston last
week. His remains arrived here on
Saturday's train, and were taken to
the colored Methodist Church for
burial.

for School Certificates. There were
forty-three in attendance. Several
days will elapse before these examinations

Mr. Smith, of Smith & Burr, manufacturers
of all kinds of lumber, at
Howard, was in town Thursday last,
the guest of Mr. 1). T. MoXeill.
Messrs. Smith & Burr are wide-awake
young men, and have a fine mill,

delineations of negro character are
good. He seems to be gentlemanly

night, Tuesday night "Charcoal
