Status of liquor in the State are variable.
The Coventor says, so the papers
represent, him, "that there is
nothing now but free liquor." We
hope that this will prove a mistake,
because, the highest authority in tho
State, expressed in this manner, will
have a tendency towards encouraging
those who are so anxious to get. into
the business and great confusion and
further trouble be the result. We
take the position that, absolute prohibition
prevails at present. That

sense reasoning and doseives
mature deliberation.

had not thought about how we should find
things, but somehow felt a little dlsap '
pointed at so much inodernneay. Modern
civilization and modern improvements,
while adding much to the comfort of gen
oral travel, are taking the romance and
beauty and some of the real enjoyment
out of travel in many places. It seems
almost sacrilegious to l>o Introducing railroads
into Palestine. We need not go so 1
far from home though to find many lormerly
delightful retreats spoiled of their
r? iu juciiHiir" ny railroad invasion.
It is rather awkward to arrive in a j
strange city at midnight, where a language j
is spoken ot which one know* not a sin
gle sentence. Fortunately for us, among
many who offered their services about the
depot on the night of our arrival, was a lively
chap, who boasted that he could "apeak
KnpIIhii like a 1/ondoner." He could really
speak enough Knglish to assist us in securing
our baggage and giving proper directions
to onr hack-driver. After failing
to find our intended hotel, we saw on 1
the aider, of a fine looking omnibus, the
words "Hotel do Itusse" and we succeed
ed In making our driver understand we
would go there, and soon found oursi Ives
comfortably .quartered in n first class
modern hotel in Home, It is no longer a
dream, a wish, wo are really in Home.
A groat host is gathered at Birmingham
from all purls of the South

How to Kill Nut <?ra*s.
A farmer gives this plan of getin

method of killing nut grass. I used
to think the only way to g^ t rid of it

it. I had about ot.e acre of very
rich garden land thoroughly seeded
town with it. I could raise a winter
>r early spring crop hut it would
jhoko out any corn or cotton crop I
2ould plant. Five years ago I raised
icrop of Irish potatoes on it, then
planted it in corn. Before it was
large enough to hoe it was a mass of
green nut grass, and to gel it out of
the hill polled up nearly all Lite corn.
It was very dry at the lime, and by
the time 1 was through, my corn was
nearly nil deud, but the grass was
doing finely. I concluded to try
heroic treatment on it. So I took a
Planet cultivator and tore up every
Made of corn and grass in the field,

ubout four <lays a new crop came up.
Then I cultivated it Urn other way,

time 1 plowed it deep, ami I got
another pretty good crop of grass

In one month, 1 th nk, I had sprout
ed and killed every vestige of it, as
not a stalk has appeared since, and it
has l?een planted in corn or sweet
potatoes every year since. Von can
tuke this for what it is worth, but
the only way to get rid of it is to
keep it from seeding, either top or
root, and cultivate and germinate all
dormant seed and kill them by eul
tivation in the dry hot weather of
May and June. If yon are bothered
