A Dance.?There was a select
dance party at the Masonic Hall last
Friday evening. It was well attended
and the young people had a very
enjoyable time. There we'*e minor
inconveniences such as a smoking
stove, and no lire; but the good nature
and will for fun of tho party was
not dampened by socli tilings, and
the light fantastic toe tripped till
near twelve o'clock.

in the bay last Wednesday got
caught in a squall, his boat was over
turned in the chop sons off Mother
Norton. When ho was found, lie

once after being found by refusing
to allow bis clothes taken off. Hut
he died before ho reached home, just
as Ins rescuers were entering the
moifth of Sum pit river.

this week and approached by the

of a dispensary in this little
corner of the State. The dailies announced
last week that Senator 1 >erhani
hud a letter from Gov. Tillman
saying that "as many hs four dispensaries
might bo established in lloiryand
wo thought ho could tell
us all about it. Hut the Senator says
he'didn'tget that letter?the newspaper
report was news to him. Hut
anyway the Senator guvo us a few
words.
"Will wo have a dispensary?" he
was asked.
"I cannot sty just now,'' was the
I answer "The indications arc not
sufliciont yet, to toll whether we will
have one or not.. IS'o developments

made to obtain the establishment of
' a dispensary in the county. All of
the Hoard of Control, 1 believe, have
not vet qualified and until they do,
no definite action can be taken. The
whole matter is in their bands and

Board; so it would he hard to sav at
this early date whether a dispensary
will or will not be established.

Governor Tillman yesterday had
something to say about the starching
of private dwellings for contraband
liquor. He said: "When the dis
pensary bill was on its passage it was

houses was in the hill. It never was
there, cover was intended to be there,
and nobody wanted it there or wants
it thero now?I mean the right to
search a private house without a warrant.
Tins falsehood has been sent
broadcast over the State with the
object of prejudicing the people.
We don't wish to search any dwelling,
but if wo find a man selling
liquor from his residence we will
get a warrant and search tlm premi
sos, seizing his stock in trade."
