We tire requested to announce that
there will be services in the Presbyterian

will bo given their tuition, amounting

The weather for the last few days
?since Saturday ?has been cold
and wot. It is possible that if Till
man had sold all the 'wanning stall,
drunk in the few raw days, there
would not he so much loss worked
(Mit I?v the bookkeepers for the Dispensary.
It rained, bv (its and starts
from Saturday nigh\ to Tuesday
morning. The rainfall during this
O ^
time was near incites, which is an
unusual amount of rain for this
season of the year. Chore was some
snow and hail on Monday night.
We know not who is to blame, but
Cool Spring ahd Vanhdlo post-unices
are without postmasters and have
been for some time. It is properly
Congressman McLaurin's business in
this District to look after the postoffices
and see that the people are
provided with proper postal facili
ties. He has done nothing of which
we are informed to rectify this an
omalous condition and Senator Duller
was some time ago usked to in.
terposo his good offices and have
postmasters appointed for these oflicos.
lint it would seem that he is
more concerned about his rc election
than he is in securing proper mail
facilities for some of his constitute ts.
It might he well for ?lie people to
contribute a I ursc for some man to
go to Washington and try to have
the poet-otlioo matters in Horry
straightened up, Some reform along
this line would he very acceptable to
the people concerned.
thanksgiving Day has passed
away. How many people counted
over their mercies and studied over
the joys of their past sorrows on that
day? There were no doubt tlions
ands over this whole country; hut in
Con way they were tolerably scatter
ed. There were services in the
Methodist. Church and a tolerably
good audience. Mr. Staff >rd preached
an excellent sermon on thanks^jping.
None of the stores \v? re closed and
Thanksgiving day's trade was pretty
fair better titan the average on
other days in some of the stores.
That is as something to he thankful
for on the evening of that day, perhaps?especially
during these hard
tint's; but, probably it would be a
good idea now for our merchants to
set aside another day, not too far
instant, to ponder over the mercies
of Providence that allowed them to
he able to have their stores open and
goods selling while others were
being thankful.
Thanksgiving day has, from time
immemorial, been the day for hunt
ing. This was almost I?nt not quite
an exception. Most of our hunters
were <<1T on ;i shooting tour in another
j>lace; hut it few guns got
together and took the woods and
fields. There was much shooting
and little game.
All in all, Thanksgiving was one
of our usual days, little different
front the rest. Few were glatl to
see it come; few to see it go. Wo
existed through that, as through
other days.

I'lie ^ItirreUVs Inlet Iteliof Fuiut'
Little or no precise information
monies to tbis place concerning the
distribution of the relief fund on
Murrell's Inlet. It may be our people
do not have any right to know
much about it; for most of the sup
plies to the needy of that, place certainly
does not come from bore,
lint there seems to be as great a
dearth of ioformation elsewhere, if
such things are reported in the newspapers
We see nothing in them
about the distribution of any supplies.
Some things, bedding, clothing,
fanning tools, etc., certainly arc tinloaded
from the river boats for the
Inlet, but what becomes of them the
public does not know.
There is no organized committee
to attend to the work of distribution;
this must bo done through individuals.
And the consequence is, there
urn no headquarters for the needy to
be reported to. The individuals receiving
the goods must themselves
look up the needy ones; for it would
hardly be right for anyone to call
for his share of goods consigned to
another person. The honesty of
none of the men, to whom relief
funds are sent can be impuncd. That
is certain. Yet there are complaints
coiniml' from some of the neoule
" I I
i| <wn there. Whether they are star
t (1 1 ?v habitual grumblers at ail
tilings or not, very probably they go
ar enough to keep some person from
contributing to the distressed. If
complaints are r.ot well founded they
should stop.
To our knowledge, some people,
little able to do so have contributed
to this fund. It would be doubly
hird, indeed, if their contributions
were misapplied. In all probability
tluwe is :> misunderstanding somewhere.
If this could be unraveled,
explained no doubt, all would bo
well and complaints stopped.
