Much complaint is being heard about the roads beyond the Galivant's Bridge, l)ing in Marion. It was understood that the Marion t'otn--i missioners were to keep the road through the swamp in good condi lion, if the Ilorrv Commissioners would help build tho bridgo across the Tee Dee. But they have paid no attention to tho accepted understanding between the two boards of Coma , missioners. The swamp has not been kept up and is now in a worse ! lix than it has been in years. Com111 Issi oner's Court. Only one case caine up this last week, Alva Milliard for retailing. It was dismissed. The occasion of iho indictment may he interesting. The house of the accused is only a short distance between two churches, one, colored; the other, a Methodist Church of which Mr. W. C. (jteuton was pastor. Protracted meotings were going on in both churches., These were much disturbed by bototerous behavior at the Milliards. Attention was drawn to the place by the disorder and the indictment was tho result. Mnt no proof was forthcoming, so the case was dismissed. ? ^ -oFriday, i24tli. The great Alliance rally will be had here in Conway on to-morrow week. Our Congressman McLaurin and Hon. .1. W. Stokes will tie the speakers of the occasion. Hand bills have been struck off in the Hkkai.d office to advertise the meeting of the faithful. It is supposed that there will be a large crowd in town on that <lay. Congressman Mel.anrin is not an Allianccman, truly; but was invited, possibly, as a delicate compliment, to the uniniatiiitcd of the Movement. It is within the seal ins of probability that the good of the order will not be the solo order of the day; it may be something will be said of politics. Ono Still in Two bounties. There is only one distillery registered for uso in the two counties of Georgetown and I lorry. There are two others registered not for use. All three are fruit distilleries in Horry Con nty. In Georgetown there is not a single distillery. Whether all this is a good or bad showing, possibly a glance over the If. S. Commissioners books, or tho U. S. Deputy Marshal's notes would show There is certainly a great deal of illicit liquor?moonshine whiskey in these two counties, if reports and rumors tell a shadee^ jxnth?if smoke is any sign iH X. ; "i Preacher IVleC'askill'H Answer to the Spring tiohl Church. To she Kditor of the 1Ikkai.i>:? i If for iho lack of time to prepare for it, our strongest, should not he able to support our Association, wo could Imve no hope that any other Church would he able to shoulder the responsibility. The above is tny answer to Springfield Church's complaint in last week's Hkham). Soino days Nj.p>, .Mr. Killer <>f our community, fixed upon a novel plan to put his potatoe vines to u>o in fat tening his winters pork, lie put a piece of wire through the noses? rooters of ten head of hogs and turned them into his potatoe patch. They couldn't turn lip the potatoes, so they eat the vines. When these were about gone, he turned a weakly shote in with them to root up potatoes for the big hogs to cat, but the shote couldn't do the work, so he turned in another to help. Now the whole thing works like a charm. It's a splendid idea. The vines 1 am not wasted, but go to help fatten the hogs; the potatoes are not wasted | and the hogs got all they want to eat. Can't you throw some more light on this dark subject? What we want is, Moi:b Light. The point, we must admit, seems to well taken. The Ukuai.d never willfully withholds any news of interest from its subscribers. Our reporter c died on the County Auditor with tho above communication and was given the following explanation. The settlement this year was delayed, as the 11 Kit A i i > of a week or two ago explained. Mr. John Her? ham, the former Auditor, was sick at the time the Comptroller camo to make his settlement, and having in his sole possession some necessary facts, the sotslement was postponed. Mr. Derhani was down last week, commissioned by the Comptroller General to make the settlement; but as the time was short tor the Comptroller to make his annual report, <mly such blanKS as were absolutely necessary to him were tilled out. These were forwarded and will bo returned this or next week. Then the settlement will he finished and the information for "More Light" and others interested, given. The Auditor being asked about the rumors of the County's being in debt said lie didn't know, hut hardly thought that there was any foundation for them. They arose, he stir niised, from the fact that the school teacher cannot be paid light now. In consequence of an overdrawing last year, the school funds this year aro short. COUNTY COMMISSIONERS. The I.ake Swamp road, beginning at VV. I Gerrald's, on ihe Tee Dee and running to the Alma road at Pleasant Meadow Chnrcjj, was received and dechireu a public highway. For the past few weeks there has heen a good deal of speculation as to whether or not Fvangelist Kinard of Ninety Six, S C., would erect his tent here.
