Jury, having disposed of all the bills submitted at this term by the Solicitor, beg leave to make our final report. We have examined the public buildings to wit: the Court House, Auditor's Otlico and Jail. We- rcccommend that the counter in the Sheriff's office be removed, so as to give more room in same; and that suitable arrangements be made for the storing and keeping of the books e it /*? _ oi i ne omce.* As to the building occupied by the Auditor, wo rcecomtnend that such repairs be made on that building as to render it comfortable and convenient. The Court House is in fair condition, but wo reccommcnd that the partition between the Clerk's and Register's oflice be lemoved, so as to throw the two rooms into one. The jail needs some repairs or work. The prisoners are not safe, except those in the cells; and we reccommend that the outer apartments of the jail be so repaired and strengthened as to render them safe for detaining such persons as are usually confined therein. The barbed wire fence betwaen this county and Georgetown, built some years ago by this county at considerable expense, we are informed has gone down and is now scarcely any fence at all. for the purposes for which it was built. Wo reccommend that so much of it as is to be found, bo sold and the proceeds of such sale bo paid into the county Treasury for county purposes. Kiohaui>so\, Foreman. Oct. 18th 1803. Washington Letter. (Uemilar Correspondent.) Washington, Oct. 30, 1803. Truly, it is the unexpected that happens in politics. Just when ninety-nine percent of the men in Congress, regardless of their personal preferences, thought the obsequies of the Cleveland repeal bill were fairly under way the prophesies of Or. Cleveland proved to bo true. Ins'ead of being a corpse tho patient sprang up from tho bier where it had been tenderly laid and demonstrated to all the world that it' was vigorous enough to knockout! all of its opponents?there was a funeral, bat compromise was the corpse. Dr. Clevdau 1 was naturally pleased at the change, hut he was not altogether satisfied; in the pocket of the patient wns a recommendation of old man silver that Dr. Clovn. land was somewhat aveisa at tie hing his name to, so lie sent his a-sooiato physician, 1 >i\ Carlisle, to chief nurse Voorhocs the advisability of strung ling the now con vuVscont patient ( and putting in its place its twin brother which was fathered by Ac-, presentative Wilson and which hud j already been strongly endorsed by the House; but the suggestion did not moot with favor, either from chief nnrso Voorhees or any consi 1erahle number of his assistants. ; They decided that it. would ho nn just to the patient they had nursul through such a long seige of criti j al illness, j est beoausa of a rccotn - j mendation which after all will he no more hinding than tho average one 1 given by a politician to office seekers. Only nine Senators voted for tlicj Wilson bill when the proposition of substituting the Moorhens bill therefor was decided by the Senate. Reasons for tho failure of com promise are heard on all sides, but none of them arc quite so interesting as those given on the llo >r of the Senate by Senators Wolcotl, of Colo., and Gorman, of Maryland, because thoy both occupied positions which should have enabled tlitim f.? knnw Mr. M'olcott said it was the withdrawal of the support which whs given the outspoken silver men hy those who were apparently working for repeal; by democrats who l>e'i? v ed the silver men were right, h t who to sustain th? udministrati ?n were willing to take tho O'h r side, and hy the republicans of tho t an I north, who wanted the s>iIv? ri men to defeat rep-aI that the party1 advantage might bo d >rivod by tho republicans from the spectacle of the , democratic majority being unable to legislate. This statement, which j other (Jorman started out by ' saying that the repeal of tlie pur 1 chasing clause of the Sherman law , might not give the relief expected i iind tlint it was not such it bill as i tho democrats wanted to pass, and ' t at it was partisanship on tho part ( of t'e republicans which prevented j rcement on a measure which i would give the relief tho situation ' d intituled lie then becumo more ( specific and declared that Senator Sherman, :i< the leader of the repub- , i aio, and of tbo majority of those St iiitt'ij-s who represented the repeal I sentiment, held the key to the sit.ua- J (ion and dictated tortus to the administration and to tho Senate, and by | his opposition prevented agreement upon a measure that would have done justice to all interests and provided tlin relief the administration ( waul- I. Much of the above might i I) aconntcd for on the theory that < M r. (iorman as a shrewd politician wished to let the silver democrats d iv. n easy, hut no such theory will account for his closing words? "During all this light, there lms not 1 l>cen a majority in the Senate in favor of unconditional re pet I, and it ( was that lu<k of a majority which has delayo 1 action unt I tins time." i It is not expected that it will 1 require more than two days more for the Senate t > dispose of all the ( amendments to the Voorhecs bill and of that measure. That it will pa-s is now conceded by its strongest and bitterest opponents, and if the repealers can muster a quorum in the ll'Uise, which they are working hard t' do, the bill will be in President Cleveland's hands before the close of the week. Chute a Hurry among the politieiaus was caused by a telegram said > to have been sent by Representative ()' I'Yrrnll, the democratic candidate f<?i* ( ! atnniw\i? \f I J.% - - .? WIVI <H;I WI V 1I?^II1IU) * 1? ?l |MUIII* inenl democrat in the House, begging that the final vote on the silver repeal l)ill lie staved olT in some way until after the election, next week, and intimating that# unless it can ho postponed his populist competitor would win. Populists reports from Virginia say tlr.it since the announcement of the certainty of unconditional repeal democratic silver men are coming into their ranks by hundreds. There is not much talk ubout Congress taking a recess us there was, and the chances are now ?.hout even that tlie extra session will run right along up to the beginning of the regular session. It is now expected that the new tariff hill will be ready ahoni November \J(), ami an attempt will probably he made as soon as the Voorhees hill is disposed of to take a recess to that date. \ ooiig .^14*11 To The Front. In America, the young men are rapidly coining to the front in the care and management of large and important business interests, and are proving themselves worthy of the trust and confidence placed in them, while doing credit to the educational training of American institutions. Many of tho men at the head of our great financial and industrial institu Hons .ire young men. The newly elected president of the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe railroad is a comparatively young man for so re sponsible a position being only forty one years of age. The capital of this r<?a 1 is four hundred million dollars and more than twenty-live thousand men are employed. The management of s<> large business interests as are here represented necessitates considerable executive ability, and the responsibility thus placed upon this young man is very great. This howover is but a single instance and is not with >ut its parallel, for the successful management of one of the larg \st publishing houses in America if not iii the world, is in the hands f a young man not yet thirty years of age, while soma of the brightest and most successful book agents tho world ever produced have not yet arrived M maturity, and the head of the h'.igg'st sn lustrial institution in the e untry is not yet twenty-seven years < f ago. There is no other country in tho world where men enter upon a business life o young as in America, and no country where there is so much enterprise and activity.
